Description of 1970 Mercury Cougar

Now this has sold twice and both buyers have financial problems. PLEASE bid only if you can afford to pay for this! The first ebay buyer that won the auction had a financial problem come up unexpectedly but did buy and provide me with a Marti report. That report is included and shows this car is much more rare than I had originally thought. I have a copy of an old title dating back to '91 so there is some ability to trace more history. I do believe that it has been a california car all it's life by the condition and lack of rust. It was built in Dearborn Michigan and delivered to Newport Beach. Cal. Only very small areas of surface rust as the pictures show. All the quarters panels and floors are rock solid! This was originally a gold car from the factory. repainted light yellow then repainted white after that sometime. The interior including the carpet all appear original. Ginger colored rare bucket seats from the factory. I'm selling for a friend that I gave this car to back in 2011. He put new tires. brakes. hoses and belts on it and drove it for about a year and lost interest. There is also a new canvas top put on but it needs more attention to close and operate correctly. power top button works but won't raise and close the top. The car starts right up and runs great. I didn't drive it because the brakes need more attention (I've been told a brake booster) to function correctly. but I feel the trans is working great also. There is also an expensive replacement radiator in the the engine bay. I did notice the AC pump has been removed and there is a small pinhole in the top of the gas tank. they'll both need some attention. I believe the engine is numbers matching but just guessing by vehicle overall appearance. let me know how to double check for you. The motor is a 351 Cleveland(much more desirable than the Windsor) with the original four barreI carb(I think). It came with a 3. 00 Conventional Rear Axle and a FMX Merc-O-Matic transmission and I assume they are original too. I'm happy to answer any questions and show the car in person. I can send more pics and video of it running if you give me your email address. I do reserve the right to end this auction early if necessary.
