Description of 1976 MG MGB

Rare opportunity to own a classic British Racing Green 1976 MGB converted to all electric! No gasoline. no oil. no carburetor. no spark plugs. no muffler. no tailpipe exhaust … just plug it into a standard wall outlet to charge and enjoy the ride. The MGB has been in my family since 1977 (originally owned by my father-in-law who always kept it in the garage). I bought it from him in 2004 and. after years of frustration with it not starting and leaking oil. we decided to strip out all the ICE parts and convert it to all electric in 2007. I’m selling the car because I rarely drive it now and can use the garage space. The original conversion cost $18k in 2007 and included lead acid batteries. which we replaced with lighter and longer-lasting lithium-ion batteries for $9k in 2013. You can expect a 7-10 year life for the current batteries if kept charged. Mostly driven on short trips around town (15-20 miles between charges). but it has a design range of 45 miles. Fully recharges in 6-10 hours with standard 120V plug. It has quick acceleration and is very fun to drive. Only 2nd and 3rd gear required to go from a stop to 55mph. Odometer reads 49. 01 miles but only 250-300 miles driven with new lithium-ion batteries. Motor: Netgain WarP-9 Series Wound DC Drivetrain: Standard 4-speed transmission with clutch Controller: Curtis PMC #1231-7701 Batteries: Twelve GBS LFMP100AH. 12. 80 volt. lithium-ion Charger: Quick Charge Charging voltage: Standard household 120V (Level 1) only DC/DC Converter: Iota DLS-55 Tires: Kelly Explorer Plus P185/70R14 Instrumentation: all functional (except gas gauge). ammeter and voltmeter added to dashboard Top speed: 65mph Range: 45 miles Includes KTA vacuum system for power brakes. black vinyl soft top and cloth car cover. Paint and interior are in good condition with some minor chips. scratches. and slight rust underneath. Seats and top of doors reupholstered in 2004. The radio does not work. Members of the Fox Valley Electric Auto Association (FVEAA) completed the conversion. A local Chicago TV station ran a story about the FVEAA while they were converting the e-MGB and it makes a cameo appearance from 2:32-2:52 of the news clip at: http://www. youtube. com/watch?v=1W72nKa6gZQ This car is sold as-is with no warranty. Winning bidder must deposit $1. 00 (non-refundable) via PayPal within 24 hours of the close of the auction. The remaining balance must be paid via cashiers check within 7 days. We will miss the eMGB but hope to find it a home with someone who will enjoy driving it. Please email with any questions … thanks!
