Description of 1954 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight

Offered here is a very rare 1954 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Holiday Hardtop Coupe with factory installed air conditioning. In many years of collecting early air conditioned cars, this is only the third '54 Olds coupe with air I have seen, and the only one in the last 30 years! The air conditioner cost over $600, a great deal considering the car itself was over $3000 as equipped. This car has every option one could order except for power windows: power seat, autronic eye, wonder bar radio, underhood and trunk lamps, etc. This car has received considerable cosmetic restoration during the last decade, including paint and most exterior chrome as well as a very nicely detailed trunk compartment. The car is finished in its original colors of Capri Blue and Baltic blue, a stunning color combination on this body. The interior is largely original and finished in a two-tone blue cloth and vinyl. The headliner has been replaced and looks very good. The seats are original and have platic covers on them. The door panels are also original and show some fading. The dark blue carpet had some bleached out areas in it which are mostly covered by the floor mat.
I have done quite a bit of mechanical work on this Olds to make it a reliable driver. I rebuilt the hydramatic transmission, did a brake job including shoes and wheel cylinders, and repaired a number of non-functioning items. All of the lights, gauges and instruments work, as well as the heater and vent cables, etc. The wonderbar radio works, and so does the clock. The autronic eye does work, and has been bypassed so that you have manual high-beam control. It is all there and could be repaired. I charged the air conditioner last fall, and it did blow cold and cool the car down; however, there is a small leak in the system and now the system needs flushing and recharging. All of the impossible-to-find a/c parts are there and working. The outside air scoops over the tail lights and the clear plastic distribution tubes in the package shelf will start many an interesting conversation! The motor runs very quietly and has good power without smoking or funny noises. This is a fast car and is a nice highway cruiser.
The Olds can be enjoyed exactly the way it is now or could benefit from further restoration. The car is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end this listing at any time. I shall be happy to answer questions by email or will happily send my phone number to seriously interested parties. The NADA on this car with hydramatic and a/c is $34.600, so I am offering the car to someone with plenty of room to make any improvements. I simply have too many cars at the moment! As with any antique car, this Olds is sold as-is, where-is with no warranty expressed or implied. Inspections are welcome during the period of the listing. Thanks! Rex Crews
I forgot to say that the odometer is not currently working, but the car is believed to have just over 70,000 miles as recorded by a note in the owner's manual.
