Description of 1991 Oldsmobile 442

1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais Quad 442. One of 1,364 built in 1991; few survived and the majority of those that did are pretty used up. Has GM factory showing the W40 option (Quad 442 Package).Original California car--rust-free except for a small spot underneath each quarter window. Runs very strong--I bought it at the beginning of the summer and have put 2700 miles on it, including a couple 4-hour road trips without any issues. However, I recently bought a Calais International Series and can't keep both cars.Engine was replaced under GM warranty in 1996 when the car had 91,000 miles. The clutch was replaced at the same time. At some point, previous owners upgraded some of the parts to W41 specs--fuel injectors, ECU, IDI cover, and possibly some other pieces. They also added a free-flow cat and a Flowmaster muffler. Brakes and shocks are also recent. The car runs and drives very well.Original interior is in great shape, with just some wear on the carpet and a small gash in the headliner over the rear seat. It does need a correct shift knob, as it has a generic replacement installed now. Radio is a later Delco CD player and does not play discs.Exterior is in decent shape. The notoriously fragile rear spoiler is all there, but does have the usual cracking due to age. It's not a show car, and has its share of bumps, bruises, and wear. The vehicle looks to have been repainted at some point in its life.Outstanding issues:--The paint is peeling off the top of the trunk lid. This is the only part of the car affected with this problem.--The air conditioning does not work. Compressor is fine, but there is apparently a leak behind the dash. There is a sticker under the hood saying it was converted to R134 in the past.--The firewall leaks water, which is a common N-Body problem. Unless it's stored inside or covered, the floors will eventually get wet.--Connecticut does not test for emissions on a car this old, so I have no idea if it will pass in another state. The "Service Engine Soon" light is on, which indicates it's throwing an emissions fault somewhere. It doesn't affect performance or drivability, so I haven't addressed it.--The driver's side window is partially off the track. It still rolls up and down, but you must guide it by hand.--The front crank seal leaks oil. It's not catastrophic, but enough to leave spots on the ground.--Reverse gear sometimes grinds on engagement.
At the end of the day, this is a 28-year-old car with its share of age-related issues, but it has survived in better shape than most.
