Oldsmobile answered the call with increasingly well-equipped models and especially in terms of performance with the release of the Rocket V-8 engine in 1949, upsized to 324 CI with 200 HP by 1954. It also influenced the eras popular culture as the inspiration for Ike Turner and his Rhythm Kings hit Rocket 88, likely the first rock n roll song ever recorded.
