Description of 1991 Oldsmobile 442 Cutlass Calais |
Fanastic used 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais Quad442 (whew!) for sale in Louisville, KY. Very rare (especially now)- around 3300 built over only two years, with approximately only 90 made in white for 1991. If you can't drive stick, move on. They're all 5-speeds. Having had one of these back in the late-90's, I had been searching for a good one at an affordable price. This one had some electrical and cooling glitches (With a Quad4? No!), but nothing I couldn't handle. It is at least as strong as the car I had 20 years ago, and original Southwest rust-free, which I could not say about my other car 20+years ago. If you are looking for an excellent Quad442 to drive and enjoy, this is absolutely the one. An excellent 20-footer, it won't win any Concours (maybe 'Survivor class'), but is as solid, fast and reliable as one of these can be. THE GOODOriginal W40 car, with all original panels and mostly original paint.Original Southern California car (to 2015), then Texas, then Florida. Connecticut and Kentucky have definitely been indoor storage.Stayed with original owner from 1991 to 2015.Goodwrench service replacement engine installed in 1996, when car had around 91k miles.Clutch and auxiliaries replaced at same time (older parts now, but few miles)Original owner 'upgraded' with W41 injectors, ECM and fuel pump.W41 IDI/coil cover added by later owner.Enthusiast dealer in 2015 performed tuneup, INCLUDING water pump and thermostat, according to old ad. It drives like it.Totally rust-free, even the heater box (I know, right?).Recent owner (not me) refinished trunklid- several spots of paint lifting in older ad.Recent owner (still not me, but likely same one) blended in paint matching on both rear quarters under quarter windows to stop minor surface bubbling under paint- VERY common N-car issue.Replacement headliner sometime in past- no way the original could have lasted this long.Brand-new (well, 200 miles) Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires on refinished Pontiac Fiero 15-inch wheels with Olds center caps (this WAS me).Immediate previous owner installed custom, 3-inch, high-flow convertor and Flowmaster muffler (awesome sound, VERY loud!).I installed brand-new Walker OEM-style high flow muffler and adapter pipe to quell noise (still not OEM quiet, but much more pleasant)Same owner updated to KYB struts all around, slotted front brake rotors, high performance pads and shoes. These brakes are AMAZING!NEW OEM headlight switch! Those in the know know most interior electric gremlins are caused by this switch. All is now well.Replacement wiper switch- not perfect, but better than original. Both original switches come with car.Leather-wrapped Achieva steering wheel- original wheel vanished somewhere in the last five years, decent replacement included. But Achieva wheel looks better and has thicker rim for better grip.Replacement used shift knob- same story, original was missing, the only decent used one (this one) is missing its leather wrap.Cruise control works flawlessly.OEM 14-inch wheels with original center caps and lug nuts (Including locks) included. Mounted on decent BFG Radial T/A's, but tires are 16 years old with plenty of cracking.Later-model GM CD head unit installed- CD not working, radio and speakers work great. Original UM6 radio missing. THE BADSmall dent toward front of driver's door, larger dent over left rear wheel (visible picture 2)Rear spoiler center section broken (No! That would never happen!), one back to front break over CHMSL.A few minor oil drips from front of engine- no pattern as to when or why.Air conditioning works, but not well. Still great for cooling down of interior after being in sun. (Or cooling down engine in traffic. Not necessary, but it's an old car. Why take chances?)Outer window sweeps missing from doors (No! Not on a Calais!).Small tear in headliner over rear seat, slight pulling in back.A LOT of orange peel in the passenger-side paint at front of quarter and back of door. No evidence of body repair, just bad repainting. And the worst- no documentation of anything (except Carfax) prior to my purchase in October of 2019. Asking a Buy-It-Now price of $5900. Of course I know what I have! You do, too, else you wouldn't have read this far. Just looking to get (most of) my money back and make sure this beauty gets a good home. Shoot me an offer. You can't insult me. Much. Crystal clear (not literally) physical Kentucky title is with me. Obviously, in-person pickup with cash is preferred, but I will be happy to work with your shipper for pickup. While you could probably drive it home, I haven't gone over 20 miles in it at any one time, and would suggest shipping or trailering instead. Any out-of-country shipping is up to the buyer. A non-refundable deposit (through Paypal) of $750 is due within 24 hours of auction close, with rest due within seven (7) days unless other arrangements are made. Balance must be made by Cashier's Check or good ol' cash in person. PLEASE ask any questions before buying! I'm sure I've forgotten a bunch of stuff. No warranties or guarantees are expressed or implied. For sale locally (Louisville, KY.), so auction may be cancelled at any time. |
