Description of 1976 Other Makes Gremlin X SURVIVOR

1976 AMC Gremlin X Levis Edition. 1970'ssurvivor. Original weathered paint. 82,000 miles are stated original. 4.2 258 Six and floor shifted automatic transmission with the famous Iconic Levis interiorFactory A/C, ower steering and power front discbrakes. Factory X package.

The car waspurchased by me and from the state of Oklahoma. Since being in Ohio it has NEVER been out in the winter and has always been stored inside. In fact ithas been stored for the last several years. Starts and runs goes into all gears very firm and with some effort stops. Car was tuned up prior to being in storage. Recently I installed a new fuel pump.

Previous owner installed a Flowmaster muffler and chrome pipe. I can say without a doubt that the 258 sounds smooth at idle and crisp and powerful when you hit the gas.

The body is above average. It has wear and tear dents and dings associated with its age for sure. What it does not have is the usual rust. Infact one spot behind the left rear wheel is it. The hood, oof and tail where the paint wore off has been clear coated to protect it from further damage. The paint and stripes have NOT been clear coated. I have enjoyed the car just as it is. It is honest what you see is what it is.

Points of interest or usual Gremlin issues.

1976 is the last year for the original bodied Gremlin. The grill assembly is a one year only and very destinctive. Some think it is the best looking. For the model year'77 the car was treated to a sheet metal update andthe Gremlin hung onuntill 1978. In '79 It became a Spirit.

The top of the front fenders, rame rails, ockers Floor Pans front and rear are solid. As far as serious rust(*other then what you can see pictured on the drivers side rear)there is nothing major. Please note that the drivers door is original. It has the proper vin decal and trim tag. Many Gremlins at some point have hadtheir doors replaced. This one has not. Also both door jambs are not stress cracked and rewelded where the striker is.Both are just as AMC installed them.

Known issues.

The fuel gauge was working. It now does not. The A/C belt is hooked up althoughit needs charged or?. Tires have good tread but are older. The hatch button was removed (not sure why) although I have it. (to open the hatch without it just stick your finger in the hole and press down) The interior has the normal fading wear and tear. It is not all beat up just sun faded. The front seats look to have been redone at some point but look nice. The brakes although work enough to lot drive and loadwill need gone through. The clips for the windshield trim are broke. This happened when Ihad the windshield cut out and re sealed. The seal is once again nice and solid. (No rust in the windshield channel) After being parked months on end there is a puddle of transmission fluid under it. With a full tank of fresh high octaine gas should do it very good.

*Extra parts* I have a NOS York A/C compressor. The speaker panel on the top of the dash is plastic. On the Gremlin it is cracked. I have a nice original replacement in the right color. I also have a 1976 Motors manual.

Of course the usual blanket disclaimer to be 100% percent mint it needs a 100% restoration. What that means is that it is a vintage car that has had limited use. It is unrestored. It runs. Before you jump in and drive on a cross country trek it should be gone over. If you are a mechanic GREAT then you know what you are in for. If not have it done. It is a vintage unrestored car. It will have seeps/leaks/rattles/bumps and bruses. Check it out and drive it local untill you have confidence to drive it on a longer trip. With that you need to bring a trailer or I'll work with your shipper.

Keep in mind the car sounds great. It is NOT perfect. The major bonus is although it has a spot of rust it does not have the rust many often have. I can speak with authority as I have had many since having one in highschool in the 1980's.It has great bones. It has been a keeper. I have made NO attempt to cover up anything.

Other vehicles on the block in the upcoming weeks are a 1960 Rambler American 2 door wagon. 1961 Rambler Classic wagon fact A/C,1966 Marlin Street Racer, 968 Javelin 390 4 Spd. 1969 BBO/Mod Javelin 390/4Spd., 978 Pacer Wagon factoryV8 this is a very special car. 1979 Spirit AMX 304 4spd.Plus will be selling many of my related nos parts so stay tuned.
