Description of 1980 Other Makes Commuta CitiCar

The person I bought it from had started on an update an that is why there is no motor and charger. Own a piece of history. This car was the first street legal EV in the USA and was manufactured in Sebring, lorida.

It has new tires on it as well as new aluminum rims. It has a DANA transaxle which is the latest version and makes this car go as fast as possible - 50-55 mph. Earlier cars had a more limited speed around 45-50 MPH. This speed is great for in town driving, ut obviously not highway speeds where the speed limits are 55-75 MPH.

Comes with the following upgrade parts:

Commuta-Car owners manual. I will include my file on the project with lot of paperwork that came with the unit as well as other paperwork I collected too.

All of the extra parts will be inside the vehicle if shipped

The car body is in pretty good shape for its age. The paint job on these cars has always amazed me. The dashboard is slightly faded on the bottom.

The break pedal is there, ut the brake pedal is not hooked to anything because the master cylinder was removed and you have a new one to replace the one that was removed. There is no battery charger with it so you will have to buy one that will work with what ever battery type you install. The windshield has a slight film on it towards the bottom. Not sure what caused this or how to go about removing it. It does not impair your driving so I assume one can just live with it and replace the windshield later. Most of the old wiring is in place, ut cut here and there.

No batteries are included. I would recommend LiON batteries as lead acid batteries typically last about 2 years. LiON should last a minimum of 10 years and parable 20 depending on how often you drive the vehicle. The original battery box holders that go on front and rear of the car are included along with some type of shock absorbers (5) and horn. You should be able to use these boxes with LiON cells. Rear bumper frame has a piece out of it that may need repaired where I think the shock absorber went..

There is NO MOTOR on the car. However, he front part of the motor housing goes with the car. The rear brakes are not hooked up, nd I am not sure about the front brakes. Figure on hooking up all the brakes and work will be needed on all breaks.

The seats that originally came with the car where to small. So I bought a set of white seats from another owner. All the current seats are good for is to get the plywood pattern from them and some of the other fittings on the seats to use. for new plywood and new seats cushions and materials.

I had the car shipped from CA to CO and cost $400 using a company called EZ Haul LLC. (720-473-3530) If you cannot pick up the car then by all means have it shipped to you via a car transport service.

THESE CARS ARE STREET LEGAL THROUGHOUT THE US: You can find fellow C-Car people at the C-Car Yahoo Group or Facebook C- car page. With an antique plate in some states it may never have to be inspected or license renewed each year.

Keep a few things in mind:

  • Gas prices will most likely rise in the future.
  • An EV is much cheaper to operate, lectricity is much cheaper than gasoline, f you charge your car off of solar energy your fuel is FREE.
  • A conversion to a LiON battery which is a much better battery than lead acid will cost less than $9,000 because many of the conversion parts are in this package.
  • The cheapest EV on the market in the USA is a the Mishibishi MiEV and it lists for about $22,000.
  • I will provide valuable diagram, ictures etc with this that will save you many hours and money. This will make you project much easier.
  • Is not currently registered in any state that I am aware of and CA and FL where checked (paperwork included)
