Description of 1962 Ford Other STEP VAN

1962 FORD AEROBILT ALUMINUM STEPVAN
This aluminum van is a ford base, ut the body was built by Aerobilt. Aerobilt was owned by Grumman-olson. It has the unique body style with spaceship style wrap around windshields. This was a taystee bread van originally, nd then a delivery van for a small town store. It was most likely in the same small town since new. The taystee signs are still visible in the right light. It is very similar to the van summit racing sponsors, hich is pictured. These vans look cool fixed up in a variety of ways. I've included pics below of rat and rod vans and original style. You can polish these aluminum vans up like an airstream and they look sweet. The look cool un-polished also or with custom paint. This van is similar to the international metro, rumman, lson, ivco, urbvan, nd dodge route vans. I personally like this style van the best. This van runs, nd drives, ut is not driveable now. I'll explain in the mechanical section. I have MORE PICS I CAN SEND. Also included below the listing are several pics of other vans to give you an idea of the potential. I have shipped several vehicles of this size and can help with the shipping process. If your looking for a cool looking vintage food or icecream truck, his is it. It would also be a great camper, arley hauler, ending truck, offee truck, ow rig, alt flats push vehicle, r? Here are all the details. Thanks and happy bidding.
MECHANICAL
This van has what I believe is the original six cylinder engine. It is either the 223 or 262 "mileage maker". I have not checked the numbers on the engine, ut I am very familiar with this vintage of ford and it appears completely original and un-modified. The engine runs nice. This van has a hydraulic clutch which needs a new master cylinder. I have driven it a little on my property but just had to start it in gear. I just drove it in first and reverse but all gears appear to work when you shift it when it's not running. It is not driveable now until the master cylinder, nd brake master cylinders are replaced. The brakes most likely will work fine with a new master cylinder but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to pull the drums and check the brakes if your going to drive it much. The engine runs smooth and quiet and doesn't overheat. It smoked when I first started it. I put lucas oil treatement in it and let it run for 20 minutes and there is no noticeable smoke now. I think the previous owner put marvel mystery oil in the cylinders when they parked it, hich is a common old timer thing. It took a bit to burn it out. No dripping leaks. The engine runs nice and does not tick, nock, r have any crankcase blowby. Good oil pressure. The exhaust sounds ok. Tires are good, nd I believe at least a couple look newish, ut may be bias ply. I can double check that if you care. I'm sure they're fine for short range but if they are bias ply, ou'd most likely want to get new tires. They are 19.5 and tires are readily available. This is a heavy duty size, nd the tires on it are hd. The wheels do not look to be the split rim style. The tires are very heavy duty and would probably be fine for low speed in-town use, ut they are old and they are most likely bias-ply also, hich did not drive well when new. This van needs the clutch/brake cylinders but does not appear to need any other major mechanical work. Turn signals work. I'll double check the headlights. It may need some basic electrical work but it's pretty simple on old rigs like this with no power options.
BODY
This van has an exceptional body for a 1962. I do not believe there are any dents really, ust small dings. No bondo. The original taystee bread signs are still visible in the right light. The van is 99.99% rust free but does have a small spot. On the rocker, ehind the drivers front wheel, he sheetmetal has rust. It has a patch riveted over it you can see in the pics. The small floor area inside from that needs a repair also. These are very easy, asic repairs for a bodyman. The roof has factory joints which at some point have been tarred so I assume there was a leak. There is one hole in the roof that has been patched over at some point. Also an easy repair. The majority of the body is very nice and dry and the grille is perfect. This originally had curved glass in the windshield corners. One is original, nd one is now plexiglass. It's nice to know that they can be redone with curved plexi if you need. The plexi one is faded but usable. The rest of the glass is flat besides those corners.
INTERIOR
The interior is clean and dry for a van like this. It has what appears to be a 1969 chevelle bucket seat (or similar). Shelving in the rear cargo area. This does not have a wall separating the driver from the cargo area. Many vans had those but for some applications, he wall is in the way. The gauge area is all pretty original and basic. Floors in nice shape. I believe they are plywood which most of these vans had for the cargo floor. I can double check that though. The roof does not appear to leak, nd I have been in it when it was raining.
OVERALL
This is a neat old van that will be an easy one to restore or just drive it as-is. You can see that some of the ones in the pics look really cool lowered and with cool rims, ut keeping the patina. You could repaint it with the taystee logos maybe? I can help with the shipping process if needed. Used, ld, nd sold as-is.
