Description of 1969 Plymouth Road Runner 440

1969 Plymouth Road Runner scored “Motor Trend’s” Car of the Year award. Born a 318 Now a 440 big block engine. The engine dress kit is impressive with finned aluminum green valve covers with super thin black “v”s. Almost like snake scales. Matching open top (with paper filter element) air cleaner. “Edelbrock” air dam (opening front to back for air flow, cool air increases Horsepower and helps with block temperature), dual plane intake manifold. Factory stock vacuum advance/coil distributor with heavy duty plug wires (all recently new). Chrome thermostat housing and lots of extra chrome goodies, like carb tension spring bracket. 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Body & Paint - 1970 Limelight J5 professional 2 stage paint job looks good. Daytona style rear spoiler. Black body side paint theme. Black hood with functional cool air induction. Hood pins. Very nice body lines and gaps. Interior - Newer Green & Black 2 tone vinyl. Bucket seats. Floor shifter. Black vinyl console with fold down arm rest. “Road Runner” decals. Aftermarket New “SunPro”gauges and SuperTach lll tachometer mounted on steering column. Factory original dash. New dash pad. Beautiful wood grain accents. This is a mid-sized 2 door Hardtop. Focus was on performance, manufactured by Plymouth between 1968 and 1980. Plymouth developed the Road Runner to market a lower-priced, model to the upscale GTX. This car is a limited-edition trim model, basically a summer sales pitch / mid-year attempt to raise sales, all the changes for the limited edition were visual. Styling changes were minor from 1st year 68, just the grille and taillights were altered. Lynch Road, Detroit, MI assembly plant. Clock delete. First Generation. Plymouth paid $50,000 to Warner Bros.-Seven Arts to use the Road Runner name and likeness from their Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner cartoons (as well as a beep, beep horn, which Plymouth paid $10,000 to develop). The Road Runner was based on the Chrysler B platform (the same as the Belvedere and Satellite), as a back-to-basics mid-size performance car American Racing Milled Aluminum mag wheels.
