Description of 1950 Packard Touring Sedan

For many this is the last of the great Packards. So to find a 1950 Packard Eight that has been preserved, driven, and maintained means this is a distinctive sedan that loves Sunday drives. So when something this appealing is also affordable, then it's worth a closer look. You paid a premium for a Packard, and it's because they offered a mix of top quality and a design like no other car on the road. 1950 was last of the 23rd series, and that meant the end of one of the sleekest designs around. The front bumpers and grille were part of one harmonious design, and they both look like the wind formed them around the body. The profile was so sleek, only a torpedo could likely have better aerodynamics. And the rear was a true piece of craftsmanship as it kept the smooth lines while incorporating a wraparound bumper and finishing the full-length trim line. You can see this all so well because of the bright yellow on this example. We won't pretend the finish is perfect, but on a bright car this complete, people will almost assume it's a cool survivor. So when it all has been preserved so nicely - right down to factory wheel covers - you know this is a classic that retains its distinctive dignity nearly 70 years later. The interior continues this feeling of original-style motoring as the tasteful two-tone yellow and brown interweave through entire inside (even the trunk is brown carpeting with a yellow full-sized spare!) Two rows of plush corduroy-like seating and big legroom instantly remind you why Packards were true luxury cruisers. And as you slip behind the original wheel and gaze at everything from the original gauges to the correct heat/defrost controls, this really feels like classic motoring. Even the factory AM radio is still on display. Under the hood is one of the truly great classic motors. Packard's straight-eight always draws attention with the long block proudly sitting in the middle. Not only does the engine bay have the honest presentation of a true driving classic, but it also has been maintained to be that way. So there are the right new parts, including a new fuel pump and battery. This powerplant is mated to a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission, which means you get a great vintage feeling while maintaining complete control. Out on the road, new front bushings, new brakes, and new Coker whitewall tires give this a solid feeling that keeps this a fine driver. This Packard is a true classic offered for a terrific price.
