Overview Of Entire Vehicle: *Condition #3 (Clean Quality Driver)

This is a 1955 Packard 400 2-Door Hardtop in excellent and highly original condition throughout. This car has been placed on consignment with us from a local collector here in Phoenix, AZ. He purchased the car about a year ago from a big collection of cars out of Texas where it was stored for many years. Before that it was a California car which we believe to have been its whole life. The body is solid as a rock with super straight sides and appears to be totally rust-free. This car appears to be a true survivor with only 67k miles which we believe to be original. It appears to have mostly original paint with a few touchups here and there over the years. The interior is pretty much all original except for the carpet. Under the hood appears to be all original with its original drivetrain which includes a 374ci V8 engine and Ultramatic automatic transmission. This car has beautiful original chrome and trim throughout. This is a highly desirable car with a low production of only 7,206 ever built in 1955. This is an extremely clean car, way cleaner than most of them out there, and the originality really speaks for itself on how well taken care of it has been its whole life. The owner just recently went through the entire car mechanically bringing it up to excellent driver quality condition. It is a wonderful looking and driving car and unbelievable being almost all original after 60+ years.

Exterior: *Condition #3+

The exterior of this beautiful 1955 Packard looks absolutely amazing for being a survivor. It still retains most of its original paint in factory Fire Opal and White Jade which is in excellent condition and truly unbelievable. We paint metered the entire car and the majority of it shows to be original with a few touch ups over the years. The rest of the cars paint, both the red and the white, is in excellent condition for being original. The car appears to have all its original chrome and trim which again is in amazing condition, showing how well take care of it was. All the gold emblems look beautiful, the Packard lettering is excellent, and is some of the nicest original chrome and trim we have seen on a car from the 50's. All the glass in the car is in excellent condition and appears to be all original. All the lenses are bright and clear as well. The car is sitting on optional Packard wire wheel hubcaps wrapped in wide white wall Coker bias-ply tires that appear to be fairly new. There is some minor crazing on the rear deck lid between the rear window and trunk lid that was touched up some years ago but is very minor and you have to be looking for it to see it. Also the trunk lock is missing and did not come with the car. The roof has some light light crazing on the side areas which we show in our video but overall the cars exterior shows gorgeous and is super straight with absolutely zero rust being a southwest, Texas and California car. This car has always been properly stored and in dry climates and is a highly highly presentable car. The fit and finish is superb throughout as the car had never been taken apart at all. Overall it is an amazing presentation for what we believe to be an original survivor.

Interior: *Condition #3

The interior in the car appears to be all original and in excellent condition except for the carpet which appears to have been replaced. It is a factory tri-tone red and white leather with black metallic fabric interior that is still soft and pliable showing its great storage and care. All the door panels are very nice, the dash pad looks amazing, and the steering wheel is excellent with no cracks at all. All the trim in the interior is beautiful and in absolutely amazing condition with no pitting at all. It appears to have all original weatherstripping which is still in great condition as well the sill plates look fantastic. The headliner is in excellent condition and overall the interior has survived the times and just shows amazing. Everything in the car works including the power seat, power windows, all the gauges, the courtesy lights, the power antenna, the radio, the heater, the directionals, etc, except for the clock, horn and the wipers which need attention. Inside the the glovebox is clean with the original glovebox liner and map holder. Inside the trunk is very nice and has been redone with the carpets and has its correct spare and hubcap, jack, original weatherstripping and is a superb presentation.

Mechanically: *Condition #3

Mechanically this car appears to be in excellent condition. It has its original 374ci V8 engine with an Ultramatic automatic transmission that runs and drives like a top. The car shows only 67k miles which we believe to be original. The owner of the car just recently went through the car including the fuel system, fuel tank, fuel pump, carburetor, the brakes, fluids etc to make it in excellent running order. It doesn't appear to have any leaks, it does not smoke, and it runs very nicely. Under the hood is extremely clean and original and one of the nicest engine compartments we have seen on a survivor in awhile. It has a new hood pad, the correct windshield washer bottle, a new battery and is just a very very nice and clean presentation. The automatic leveling suspension does not appear to be working as it does have air shocks to lift the rear end up. The automatic leveling suspensions were troublesome in these cars and often just randomly quit working so this is a much better system. All the parts and components are all there but do not currently work so air shocks were put in to level the suspension. This can be rebuilt if you feel the need to. Overall it is a car you can jump in, drive and enjoy.

Under Carriage: *Condition #3

The underside of this car is very clean, solid and rust-free with what appears to be factory undercoating from 1955. There is no sign of rust, has all its original sheet metal underneath and is just nice and original. The exhaust system is decent as one of the mufflers could use replacement. The front suspension seems to be all original, with original bushings that show some age, but some steering components have been replaced. Overall a really clean under carriage.
