Description of 1971 Plymouth Barracuda 'Cuda

Whoever says you can't own a nice, -figure MoPar without a framed broadcast sheet and a call to Galen Govier obviously hasn't been to our 78,000 square foot showroom. That's because, s dedicated gearheads who sweat 30 weight motor oil, e strive to deliver the world's finest investment grade metal AND first class muscle cars that literally define the term "pro-tourer". Take, or example, his wicked 1971 Plymouth 'Cuda. The beneficiary of a nut-and-bolt, otisserie restoration that included a modern 6.1 liter Hemi, complete XV suspension and a modified leather interior, t's an exceptionally well-done piece that'll more than hold its own against any pampered show queen. And, lthough it doesn't have factory documentation or a stack of plastic trophies, t does have a feature article in the June 2008 edition of Super Rod Magazine. If you're looking for some old school Detroit metal that wraps some of the nastiest muscle your money can buy in one of the best looking packages to ever prowl American streets, his awesome 'Cuda is just your style!

This cool E-Body's complete rotisserie restoration began when its solid fuselage was meticulously stripped, arefully massaged and thoroughly sanded by the good folks at Xtreme Velocity Motorsports in Irvington, ew York. Once that canvas was fully prepped, custom red base was expertly sealed in a thick and glossy clear. And when that skin cured, t was buffed to a thoroughly substantial presence. Take one look down the profile of this sweet Plymouth and you'll see tough, lab-sided panels that have been straightened and finessed far past anything that rolled out of the factory. Pull the car in to the sunlight and its glossy glow accurately reproduces Chrysler's planar, traight lines while offering a level of protection that can only be achieved with today's advanced paint technology. Get up close and personal with its pigment and all that staring and comparing adds up to one super slick, ll-American muscle car that's been in the care of one meticulous owner since its 2008 transformation.

Unlike many striped and decaled creations, hich tend to throw good taste out the window, his awesome MoPar seamlessly balances a cool personality with flashy good looks. At the front of the car, gray, 71-exclusive grille hangs crystal clear headlights above a mirrored bumper and familiar, culpted parking lamps. At the top of that grille, body-matched shaker rides in front of like-new glass, traight stainless trim and a white, ower-operated roof. At the sides of that shaker, atin door handles, tylish fender vents and body-matched mirrors highlight a smooth, rofessionally finished profile. And at the back of the car, 'Cuda-branded valance hangs like-new tail lights above another mirrored bumper and correct exhaust tips.

Raise the wide red hood and you'll find a killer, V-tweaked V8 that takes this Plymouth from 'very appealing' to 'MUST HAVE' almost as fast as it takes its driver from 'confident' to 'scared stiff'. Measuring exactly 6.1 liters, hrysler's resurrected Hemi uses a revised block, forged crank, ighter pistons, trengthened rods, ew oil jets, ariable cam timing and increased flow heads to turn 10.3 to 1 compression into 425 horsepower. But wait, here's more: the techs at XV decided to make the engine their own by installing a custom-grind cam, alancing and blueprinting the whole set-up and throwing in a bunch of hand-picked bolt-ons. The result is a healthy 525 horsepower that's fun, eliable and easy to live with. At the top of the stout block, bright red shaker funnels wind through a billet, late-style throttle body in to an aluminum single-plane intake. That air mixes with fossils thanks to a custom-tuned engine management system, hich controls a tweaked fuel supply via billet rails, n adjustable regulator, tainless lines, high-flow filter and a custom tank. That air/fuel mixture explodes under extended RPM valve springs. Those valves feed 304 stainless headers, hich flow in to 2.5-inch 304 stainless pipes. And cooling for that cycle is provided by a beefy aluminum radiator, hich is equipped with two electric puller fans. Visually, he body-matched bay comes together every bit as well as the outside of the car, ith its smooth firewall and bright red fenders providing a perfect frame for the modern Chrysler mill. Speaking of that mill, ts installation is exceptionally well done and certainly looks tidy enough to pass as an OEM package. And, n addition to precise XV bracing, he powerplant features a host of first class ancillary components including an aluminum oil pan, N fittings and hydraulic hood supports.

Take one look under this buff E-Body and you'll see that it definitely has the chops to back up its sinister good looks. The smooth-revving engine is hooked to a slick-shifting Tremec TKO 600 5-speed that's fitted with a heavy duty hydraulic clutch. That transmission utilizes a custom aluminum driveshaft to twist an upgraded Truetrac differential around 3.91 gears, lloy axles and alloy wheel studs. Not surprisingly, he car's old-school torsion bar front-half has been completely replaced by an XV Level II suspension, hich includes: an aluminum K-member, luminum controls arms, luminum spindles, splined sway bar and Hyperco coil-over-shocks. That Level II prowess extends to the back of the car where factory leaf springs have been exchanged for an adjustable 3-link, hich employs a custom sway bar, n adjustable Panhard bar and more adjustable Hyperco coil-overs. Naturally, hat pavement-ripping suspension is augmented by variable-rate power steering and first class XV hydroboost braking, hich pinches 14-inch slotted rotors via 6-piston calipers and 13-inch slotted rotors via 2-piston calipers. An intimidating engine note comes courtesy of an H-shaped crossover and polished Magnaflow mufflers. And power flows through a sweet set of Budnik wheels, hich spin 275/35ZR18 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As in front of 295/35ZR18 BF Goodrich g-Force T/As. This 'Cuda's fully restored floors are sprayed in a nice coat of Satin Black paint. And everything, rom the car's powder-coated pumpkin to its laser-cut subframe connectors, s fully sorted and ready to bank some curves!

Open this Plymouth's super straight doors and sit down inside a cockpit where the timeless good looks of American muscle meld seamlessly with tasteful upgrades and modern conveniences. The Recaro bucket and factory bench seats, hich are wrapped in bright XV leather, eel much more upscale than traditional Mopar hardware. At the base of those seats, resh wool carpet centers a TKO pistol grip shifter inside billet foot pedals, olor-keyed floor mats and high quality Dynamat insulation. At the edge of that carpet, eather-wrapped side panels hang traditional door handles and great sounding Alpine kick speakers in front of smooth power windows and remote power door locks. At the front of those panels, leather-wrapped dash anchors silver-face XV gauges above modern Alpine audio and controls for a Vintage Air climate system. In front of the driver, half-wrapped billet steering wheel spins around a tilting column. Behind the passengers, custom upholstered trunk hides two batteries and an Alpine amplifier. And, o maximize comfort and enjoyment, V threw in a heated driver's seat, emote trunk access, Python alarm system, nd hidden K40 radar and laser detection.
