The basic formula for a show-stopping resto-mod is simple: start with a popular muscle car and add proven, high quality components until every compromise has been eliminated. Of course, perfecting that formula takes a rare combination of time, talent and vision, and this awesome Road Runner is one of the lucky classics backed by all three. The product of methodical restoration, this brutal road warrior is a no-holds-barred classic that's ready to parade the cruise-in and dominate the stoplight. Every piece of the car has been carefully crafted with equal emphasis on performance and aesthetics. And if you're looking for an exhilarating way to enjoy a sunny summer weekend, its 440 cubic inch V8, proven A833 4-speed and thoughtfully upgraded suspension are all happy to oblige!

BODYWORK/TRIM

This slick sedan's 2011 restoration began with what appears to be a solid, damage-free body. That body's panels were stripped, sanded and massaged into a great-looking profile. Once that profile was correctly aligned, it's vast surfaces were lit to life with an even coat of bright red 2-stage. And the result is one straight, fully sorted pavement pounder that inspires comments and elicits stares every time it hits the road!

Logging roughly 1,000 weekend miles since it rolled out of the paint booth, every piece of this Plymouth's tailored ornamentation is on point. And while it's hard to determine the originality of all those baubles, they present well and display very little weathering. At the front of the car, a prominent, stainless-trimmed grille hangs bright halogen headlights above a body-width bumper and factory marker lamps. Above that grille, a color-keyed A12 hood leads the eye to like-new glass that's cleared by matte wipers and framed in bright stainless trim. At the sides of that hood, a sculpted profile centers traditional Chrysler door handles behind a correct chrome mirror. And at the back of that profile, clean taillights illuminate a second body-width bumper that's complete with small reverse lamps.

ENGINE

Toss the car's lightweight hood and you'll find a stalwart, 440 cubic inch big block that's been regarded as the backbone of the Chrysler muscle car movement for over 50 years. At the top of the massaged block, a Gloss Black air cleaner forces wind in to three Demon carburetors and a modern Edelbrock intake. At the sides of that intake, factory-spec heads perch a polished K&N breather on color-keyed Mopar Performance valve covers. At the front of those covers, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor sequences spark between an MSD Blaster 2 coil and MSD Street Fire plug wires. Beneath those wires, snazzy billet components spin a polished alternator and modern power steering at the sides of an aluminum Chrysler water pump. At the front of the engine bay, a beefy AutoRad radiator makes good use of an aluminum expansion tank and two electric puller fans. At the sides of the block, Hooker Super Competition headers usher spent gases in to rowdy exhaust pipes. There's an impressive roster of ancillaries that includes a Milodon oil pan, a fresh master cylinder and a familiar Road Runner horn. And aesthetically, the bright red mill looks right at home between the car's vibrant red fenders.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Take one look under this mighty MoPar and you'll find a fully sorted chassis that's ready and willing to back up the car's tough appearance. The powerful engine sends thrust to a proven A833 4-speed, which twists a Sure Grip differential around a chrome-capped Dana 60 axle. That drivetrain rides a thoroughly massaged suspension, which utilizes tubular control arms, QA-1 coil-overs, traditional leaf springs and KYB shocks to provide a killer stance. Turns come courtesy of power rack-and-pinion steering. Stops are provided by big Wilwood calipers, which squeeze four vented rotors. Large-diameter exhaust employs Flowmaster single-chamber mufflers. Torque meets the pavement through Billet Specialties Daggers, which spin 245/45ZR17 Nitto Extreme ZRs in front of 285/40ZR17 Nitto Extreme ZRs. And the car's solid, undercoated floors are paralleled by sturdy subframe connectors.

INTERIOR

Pop this Plymouth's tight-fitting doors and you'll find a standard Black interior that's been tastefully updated where necessary. Attractive bucket and bench seats wear fresh, fade-free vinyl. In front of those mitts, a factory dash frames a Plymouth Solid State radio and factory-spec telemetry between an Auto Meter Street Tach and monochromatic Auto Meter accessory gauges. At the base of that dash, clean carpet founds a familiar Hurst shifter. Those components are framed by a tight headliner, weather-free door panels and color-keyed door frames. The driver saws the twisties with a correct Road Runner steering wheel. And behind the cockpit, a carpeted trunk hides plenty of room for road trip gear.
