Description of 1963 Plymouth Fury

According to CHRYSLER HISTORICAL ARCHIVE records, this car was one of the first 1963 model Plymouth Fury convertibles produced with a factory ship date of Sept 7, 1962, one week before the new model was offered for sale to the public.

The car was first shipped to JE French Chrysler Plymouth in Oakland California and then transferred to a small dealership in Moses Lake, Washington, a sleepy farm and ranch community located in the east central part of the state. This part of the state is referred to as the “central high desert” with a very dry climate and less than 7.5 inches of rainfall per year. The car was sold to the second owner in 1993. He installed a factory rebuilt engine, replaced the interior, had the car repainted and continued to enjoy the car for the next 17 years. The car remained in the same area of Washington state until it was listed on ebay in late 2010.

When I saw this totally rust free 2 owner car listed on ebay, I felt that it would be great car to do a full restoration on (you can’t find an original rust free 1960’s car, especially a mopar, in northern Illinois.) I totally disassembled the car and had it media blasted and painted to it’s original Ruby Red color. I did not have to replace the interior other than restoring the instrument cluster. The top works well but I replaced the canvas myself and it has some wrinkles in it.

My original plan was to replace the 318 engine with a big block. I bought a used“built up” 383 and big block push button torqueflite trans to install in the car but after driving the car for a couple months, I decided that the engine and trans currently in the car worked perfectly and choose to leave well enough alone. I still have the 383 but have no longer have any desire to change over. I would include the engine for an additional $1500. I also have available a set of BFGoodrich radials mounted on 15 inch American Racing vintage wheels that I sometimes ran on this car. I would also Include the tires for an additional $1500.

This car has won numerous local car show awards and was awarded first place at “Chicagoland Mopar Happening” car show at Belvedere Illinois in 2011. Trophies and awards included with car and also a copy of the original IBM build card that moved down the assembly line with the car.

I am over 70 years old and have health issues so it’s time to sell. This is a very good running and driving 63 Plymouth. Any questions, I can be reached at cell ph.#815-751-8153 or 815-825-2683.
