Description of 1972 Plymouth Duster Buckets

As to myself, I am a (69) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback that is at 100% with (1,217) transactions. Many of my transactions have been muscle/classic cars, which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Australia and the Netherlands. My reputation for honesty is well known amongst muscle car lovers.

WHY THE PHOTOS ARE SO LARGE NOW IS ALSO A MYSTERY TO ME.

Just some quick history on the Plymouth Duster:

The Duster concept name came out of an advertising agency suggestion; it had performance and a bit of humor in it, because when you were outraced, you had been "dusted.”

Owners of the Duster and Demon had some advantages over owners of Swingers and Scamps; the rear of the Duster was designed for aerodynamics, and greatly reduced noise and increased highway gas mileage. Cruising became easier. The high deck lid also dramatically increased trunk space, giving coupe owners far more storage than sedan owners, even if it made it harder to get things into the trunk.

The Duster was not changed significantly for 1972. New surface-mount side marker lights replaced the previous flush-mount items, the tail lamps became larger, one-piece units. The power rating of the 340 V8 was reduced from 275 hp to 245 hp due in part to a reduction in compression ratio from 10.2:1 to 8.5:1, as well as changing the intake valves from 2.02 in to 1.88 in. All horsepower rating numbers, even on unchanged engines, decreased for 1972 due to a new rating system. Chrysler's electronic ignition became standard on the 340 models in 1972.

Back in 1970, the company had planned an all-out makeover for the 1973 model year. The stylists prepared for softer, rounder Darts, Demons, Dusters and Valiants. The company hit hard times, and the new styling was cut; still, the cars kept on selling, just as they were. They owned 30% of the compact-car market, huge for Chrysler.

The last year for the Plymouth Duster was 1994. It was replaced by the Dodge and Plymouth Neon; finally, theDodge Neon SRT4took the place of the Duster 340.

Body Plate: The plate is missing. I assume it was removed when painted and not put back.

Exterior: The blue paint looks very nice but does have imperfections. The Plymouth Duster does look to have B5 Blue exterior paint but again, I am not sure. I am quite confident that this Plymouth Duster still retains most of the original and solid body panels. All windows, appear original and are in very good condition with the Pentastar etching. (With the exception of the rear window?). The tires look very new and are mounted on Cragar SS rims that do have surface rust starting. The antenna is not correct and does not fit solid on the car. The horn is not working.

All exterior items work such as:

· Head lights (high and low);

· Tail lights;

· Blinkers (rear passenger's side not blinking);

· Wipers.

Interior: The Plymouth Duster interior appear is good but not great condition. Rear seats and rear door panels are very nice. Front seats have covers. Front door panels have speaker cut outs. Driver's side door rest is missing the pad. Dash has a homemade cover. Car has the basic floor covering but not rugs. The headliner has a piece of plywood by the windshield for some reason but I simply do not know why. Gauges are functional and there is a trio of gauges under the dash. The heater and dome light are not working. The heater core leaked so it was disconnected on the engine side.

Engine: The engine is said to be a rebuilt 318ci with a 4BBL. It has headers and does start and sound very good. No smoking. The car does have power steering and was originally an A/C car but all of those components are long gone including the 6-cylinder engine.

Trunk; The trunk and trunk lid look very good. The spare and jack assembly are not present. The trunk does not have a trunk mat.

Undercarriage; The undercarriage is basically rust and rot free with a good dual exhaust. Just look at the photos of the undercarriage and you will see what I mean.

ID Photos:
