Description of 1968 Plymouth GTX

Just in time for summer- cruising, car shows & plain old Mopar muscle car fun!!!!

Up for your consideration today is a total gem. I got it off my uncle back in 2018. I am the third owner. He scored it back in 1974. My uncle drove it in the summers to 53k and then did a full restoration in 1987. It was an impeccable effort, at that. The car was carefully disassembled, body & paint made perfect, interior fully restored, suspension, fuel & brake lines and engine entirely rebuilt. All the men involved with the restoration were all Mopar experts. This was a day & age before the internet & computing, where folks didn’t really document so all I have is his tales. I remember my uncle bragging about the fellow who did the RB 440 rebuild. The finest parts were installed, and they even rebuilt & put an A833 transmission in from a hemi car to ensure long term reliability. The engine fires up & runs like a Swiss watch in any temperature. All features in & out of the car work as per specification. Once the GTX was perfect in my uncle’s discriminating eye, it became one of his 11 Mopar show cars.

In 2019, it was time for some upgrades. A full Hotchkiss TVS system was professionally installed. The lower control arms are now QA1 that work perfectly with the Hotchkiss sway & torsion bars. The frame tie-ins are properly installed and the TVS rear leaf springs &sway bar are the same. You now have Fox shocks (made for Hotchkiss) at all four corners as well. This GTX now handles like a modern car- very tight & safe. We kept going and had power disc brakes installed up front, a new gas tank, and a Be Cool radiator to handle the big block heat better. I have the original points-based distributor, but a Flame Thrower solid state now controls the spark. From 1987 until today, the car was driven on sunny summer days. Only 3000 miles were put on since the full restoration. It’s a solid 9/10 and museum worthy.

Anyone seriously looking at this ad knows what the car is and what’s it’s not. It’s not modified to the point where it could not be “put back” if future owners desire. It’s also not a full restomod. Future owners can keep investing in that course of modification. I already have a Hellcat. With this car, I wanted to retain the greatness of 1968 in the powertrain in this car. Rowing through the four speed with the torque of the 440 is a gift. The brakes and suspension simply make the car safer & fun to actually drive. I tell everyone, it’s a supreme power cruiser. I have driven it hundreds of miles in a day with full confidence. It all works together beautifully.

So here we are. It’s up for sale because I am a lucky guy. I have too many other machines and projects. It’s time for this one to go to the next lucky person who wants to live the genuine old school Mopar lifestyle. I am running the most honest auction you can ask for folks.I am not insulting anyone’s intelligence with a reserve guessing game. First bid takes it if nobody else bids. I expect there will be more bids and invite questions. I will communicate freely throughout the auction.

The lucky winner must deposit $1000 via PayPal upon auction end (within 24 hours) to fully lock the deal. The deal must be fully closed in 14 days. The car will be 100% paid for before it leaves my garage in the form of a bank transfer or certified check that clears my account. I will gladly supply a bill of sale or any other needed docs so the next owner can make title. If the buyer needs me to hold the car longer while they are arranging shipping, I will do so. I have sold many machines over the years here on eBay to the delight of all my buyers. I maintain easy going & constant communication until the buyer happily gets them home.

Can't wait to see who gets this amazing machine next!!!!

Update 5/31/22- Really good activity and can't thank everyone enough for all the interest. I was asked about trades- please see my note above about having enough, other machines & projects. This one is up for simple sale. Was asked general maintenance questions and wanted you all to know that there is proper Amsoil in the rear diff, radiator, transmission and obviously, the crank case. Finally, for now, I do not intend on ending the auction early. I am grateful for the offers but let's see who really wants this GTX the most. I love sharing our passion for these machines with everybody and thanks again!

Update 6/1/22- More good feedback from inquires. No, the 440 burns no oil. The engine was fully rebuilt less than 3,000 miles ago and it's right & tight. No, the car was never ceramic coated. Simple wax was all that was ever used. A shipping question was tendered and I have a huge loading area that can accommodate any type of hauler, up to, a full size 18 wheel carrier. Finally, yes, it's an original manual 4 speed car. These are rarer as you will easily see with a quick look just across eBay. I only invest in the manuals across my cars & trucks. Thanks so much and have a great day!
