Details:

1959 Pontiac Catalina Coupe (post car)

Paint is 1967 Pontiac Firebird Verdoro Green

The Parchment interior has custom Indian heads stitched in the door panels and a Pontiac arrowhead stitched in the rear seat center armrest. The 1959 Bonneville Carpet has metallic silver thread disbursed throughout. Front seats and seat covers are originally from a 1966 GTO, and back seat was converted from a 1965 Bonneville.

Interior gauges include a B&M Transmission temp gauge built into the dash, and the large Summit gauges in a cluster below the dash. An Autogauge tachometer is on the steering column. A custom built wiring harness supplies the power.

Rims are Pontiac 15x7 Rally II’s, and rear tires are 275/60R15 Nitto 555R Drag Radials

Original AM Radio & Power Antenna not hooked up.

The 455 engine short block was rebuilt by a local machine shop and has a stock crank and stock rods with TRW forged flat-top pistons. Engine has less than 500 miles on it, and there is sometimes a puff of smoke from the exhaust.

MSD 6AL Ignition Box with Rev. Limiter.

While the mild short block was put together at an early stage of the build, the 6X heads were done later and a very well respected machine shop was used for the head work. Heads are very nicely ported and have Ferrea Stainless RAIV length valves, springs are Crane 99893, and rockers are Harland Sharp 1.65:1 aluminum roller rockers. Compression ratio is 9.3:1 and the engine runs great on the California 91 octane gas. Carburetor is a Holley 750 and is mounted on an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold that has been port matched to the heads. Fuel is delivered from the stock tank by a Mallory 140 electric pusher pump, through a large Summit fuel filter to a Holley regulator, and then to the carburetor.

The automatic transmission is a built 4 speed 700R4, and is shifted by a floor mounted B&M Quicksilver shifter.

Rear axle is a very heavy duty Pontiac limited slip 9.3 unit with 3.42:1 gears.

Front Power disk brakes are a Scarebird conversion kit and do a great job stopping the beast.

The monstrous aluminum radiator is a custom built 4-core unit by Fluidyne.

The complete car was disassembled, cleaned, painted, and put back together one bolt at a time. This labor of love took over 16 years, and the car was painted at the beginning of the work. There are some scrapes and dings that we have documented with photos, and the car does come with about a quart of extra paint that will allow a perfect color match for touch-ups.

This project started as a California desert car, and there is simply no rust or rust repair anywhere on the car.
