HISTORY This Firebird was manufactured in the Los Angeles area plant and has remained in California for its entire lifetime. It was owned by a single family prior to purchase by the current owner in 2006. A member of the original owner family fully updated and restored the car in the early 2000's. Originally the car was fitted with a 350 cu. in. engine. During the complete. comprehensive restoration. a "big block" Pontiac 455 cu. in. engine was installed and the color scheme was improved to be a lovely shade of burgundy (or what might be termed "Merlot" by wine aficionados) exterior with an all-black interior. It has been only rarely driven by the current owner in the past 8 years as a result of his collection of late 1960's / early 1970's muscle cars. He has maintained the car but has not made any significant changes to the Firebird since it was completely restored within an estimated several thousand miles. The all-black interior is excellent and shows nicely. There is no evidence of wear or sun damage. The engine bay is extremely clean and neat with the engine painted in proper "Pontiac blue. " The fully upholstered trunk shows nicely and is solid. The underside is remarkably rust free and detailed with solid floor pans. a body color restored gas tank. and a detailed rear end. front suspension and entire undercarriage. The odometer currently reads 71. 54 miles. Mileage is being judged as "Total Miles Unknown" (TMU). While the condition of the car would support a statement of "original mileage" we do not represent a 45+ year old car as anything other than TMU since we are unable to definitively document the car's mileage. This car can be proudly cruised and displayed at all car shows. It is a truly excellent example of a vintage Firebird. The extensive photographs accurately reflect the car's condition including the body. paint. engine compartment. interior and underside. OTHER - Clear California title with current California registration - California smog test not required for vehicles 1975 and older - Passed the California required safety inspection for working wipers. turn signals. lights. brakes. etc. HISTORY OF THE 1968 PONTIAC FIREBIRD The Pontiac Firebird was built by the Pontiac division of General Motors between 1967 and 2002. The Firebird was introduced the same year as the automaker's F-body platform-sharing model. the Chevrolet Camaro. This coincided with the release of the 1967 Mercury Cougar. which shared its platform with another pony car. the Ford Mustang. The first generation Firebirds (1967-1969) had a characteristic Coke bottle styling. Unlike its cousin. the Chevrolet Camaro. its bumpers were integrated into the design of the front end and its rear "slit" taillights were inspired by the Pontiac GTO. Both a two-door hardtop and a convertible were offered through the 1969 model year. Assembly was in Ohio. For 1968 the engine options ranged from an in-line 250 cu. in. 6 cylinder to either 350 cu. in. or 400 cu. in. V8's. Various carburetor options were offered with each engine type. providing various horsepower ratings. The styling differences from the 1967 to the 1968 model were the addition of federally- mandated side marker lights for the front of the car. the turn signals were made larger and extended to wrap around the front edges of the car. and on the rear. the Pontiac (V-shaped) Arrowhead logo was added to each side. Also. the front door vent-windows were replaced with a single pane of glass.
