Description of 1979 Pontiac Trans Am SE

YOU ARE BIDDING ON A 1979 Pontiac Trans Am SE Bandit Gold Edition Clone. This BEAUTIFUL example of Classic American Muscle is a running, driving and fully restored classic.

EXTERIOR: The body is in excellent condition with brand new base coat clear coat Tuxedo Black paint and all new, and correct, Gold SE Bandit stripe and decal kit. THE PAINT ON THIS CAR SHINES LIKE A DIAMOND, A BLACK DIAMOND TO BE EXACT!!! No structural, frame or floor rust was found during the restoration and it Still retains most of its factory undercoating. There was very little exterior body rust prior to the restoration. Only a few minor holes were in the typical places behind three of the four wheels. These areas were cut out and replaced with correctly fitted patch panels that were welded in place. All weather strips and seals are new as are the front grill units. The car was stripped down to bare metal prior to the repaint. This was a very straight car to begin with so no additional filler was used during the restoration. The actual mileage of this car is unknown because the odometer was not working and the digits were moving independently of each other in no orderly fashion. I replaced it with a good working used speedometer/odometer that shows around 60k miles. The suspension, steering and brakes have all been gone through and it drives steers and stops as it should. This car originally had a 403 Olds engine but I replaced it with a 1975 Pontiac 400 (6.6 Liter) engine and a fresh rebuilt T-350 automatic transmission with a 2000 stall torque converter. Long tube Headman headers were added along with a full mandrel bent 2.5 inch Flowmaster dual exhaust system with crossover and stainless 2.5 inch Trans Am Splitter tips. It has 4 BRAND NEW BF GOODRICH RADIAL T/A TIRES mounted on a set of restored original 8x15 Snowflake wheels that haven't even been down the road yet. Mechanically it is solid with no fluid leaks. All lights and signals work as they should. The factory A/C system is in place and with many new components including a new compressor clutch and has been charged with R-134 freon. The heater core is new and all blower and duct controls are working as they should.

INTERIOR: The Camel SE interior has been restored to its original like new condition. Although an available option, finding a Black SE Gold Edition FirebirdTrans Am with a Camel interior is quite rare. Most of the Black SE Gold Edition Trans Am's came with the Black interior. Most of the interior, including the headliner, carpet, console, dashboard and door panels are brand new reproduction. It has a period correct aftermarket Clarion am/fm Cassette stereo system mounted in the dash which plays through a pair of rear deck mounted 6x9 Kenwood Tri-axle Speakers. All gauges dash lights and switches work as they should. This car originally had cruise control from the factory but that was removed sometime prior to me taking possession of it.

FEATURES: This car came factory equipped with the SE package, 8x15 inch Snowflake wheels, Cruise Control, A/C, Tilt Column Rear Window Defroster, Remote Drivers Mirror, Power Antenna and Intermittent Wipers. All are working except the Cruise Control. Even the lighter is working! Also this car is equipped with period correct and VERY NOSTALGIC REAR TRACTION BARS!! I had heard that Traction Bars could be special ordered from the factory and that a few of these cars came from the factory with them installed. I believe these to be factory installed because the rear shocks are actually mounted on these traction bars and they had overspray from the factory undercoating on them. All of the aftermarket traction bars that I ever saw in the 70's and 80's did not have the shocks mounted on them. The shock mounts were a separate bracket that was part of the rear spring mounting bracket assembly.

For those of you who may remember the Movie Smokey and the Bandit starring Burt Reynolds and Sally Fields, this car was restored to look like and pay tribute to that car. Pontiac produced a Black SE Gold Edition Trans Am model in 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982. The Bandit edition included a "Bandit" logo on the driver's door and was available on a few Black SE 1977 models and as an option from 1978 through 1982. I have the "Bandit" logo for this car and it will go with the car to be installed by the buyer if they choose to do so.
