Description of 1976 Pontiac Catalina Custom

You are looking at a 1976 Pontiac Catalina Custom 4 door sedan. The car was used in the Idaho Falls,Idaho Sheriff's Dept I was told when I bought it. I found the clipping for the man who drove the car in dept stuffed in the front seat. He passed away 20 years ago. I have since put that clipping in the glove box so that he can stay with the car.
The car is very fast. It has a 400 2 barrel engine in it-but it is faster than most 455's I had. It has to be the gearing. The suspension is also more rigid than most and it can corner on a dime. I am not too familiar with a car that was used for law enforcement-but this one is a blast to drive.
As you can see,the brown color is original and might remind you of the cars used in Smokey and The Bandit.
The interior is pretty nice, there are some cracks in the dash, the front seat is worn a little bit with one tear and the drivers side seatbelt plastic is also worn. The carpet is still perfect.
Somewhere along the line someone added a CD player to it. I have never played a CD in it though-I just listened to the radio.
There is some minor rust bubbling under the top by the C pillar and some rust in the left lower "dog leg" by the rear tire. The trunk, frame, fenders, hood, inner fenders and doors are all rust free.
The pictures will show the condition of the car and it's actually pretty nice for what it is. It survived.
I have installed a recent tune-up,new battery, fresh oil change, tires and a new stainless dual exhaust system. This is a turn key car and you can drive it anywhere.
If you do win the auction-and decide to come out and drive it home-please try not to get pulled over. I must mention again, the car is VERY FAST.
My hope for this Catalina is that it would go to a retired law enforcement person,or a current branch where they could restore it into a parade car if they like. I feel it should "stay in the family" and I was only a caretaker. She did her service and she deserves to live on.
Thank you for looking at the listing. I hope it goes it a good home.
Everything works minus the clock, even the windshield washer still works. This is a road worthy car as is right now and you can enjoy it as soon as you see it.
The car sounds amazing.
