While it is not exactly the Ectomobile from the “Ghostbusters” film, this is still one clean and cool custom medical transporter and it’s here, at MotoeXotica Classic Cars. This particular unit was partially assembled at GM’s Pontiac, Michigan factory (VIN code P). The rest of the build was done at Superior Coachwork's Kosciusko, Mississippi factory before returning north. This example was made on October 12, 1960.As for the Superior Coachwork Pontiac Ambulances, every one of these vehicles were hand built, and there were not that many of them produced. They represent an important part of the history of the automobile. Unlike a assembly line production car that was built from start to finish in a few hours, these custom built ambulances took weeks and months to build, due to the complexity of all the changes that were necessary to modify the chassis into a full time working ambulance.Finished in white over Skymist Blue, the vehicle’s paint and trim are in overall excellent order, with hardly a blemish visible, even at close range. The ambulance’s body is solid, its engine bay is very tidy and the rear section looks ready for the next stretcher. The chrome bumpers are in excellent order and shine brilliantly in the sun. The red swivel light on the roof still functions. This medical wagon rolls on Toyo double whitewall radials. Each tire is mounted to a Chevrolet rally wheel from the late 60s-70s era. In the rear is a spare tire mounted on an extra wheel. The wheels and tires are in very good condition.Under the hood is a 454 CID V-8 engine from a 1979 Chevrolet that breathes through dual exhausts. Backing this motor is a Turbo-Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features include vintage air-conditioning (complete but inoperable), power steering and power brakes with front discs.New parts include: a four-core aluminum radiator, rear brakes drums and shoes, brake cylinders, front disc brakes, master cylinder, brake diaphragm, fuel pump, fuel line, carburetor and air cleaner.Inside, the ambulance’s blue cloth and vinyl interior is very eye-catching and complements the exterior well. The front bench seat looks fantastic, as is the matching carpet. In back are two great-looking, matching and folding jump seats, one alongside the patient area while the other is immediately behind the front bench. The white headliner provides neutral contrast while a three-spoke, aftermarket steering wheel, complete with tilt column, faces the driver. The matching blue, metal dashboard offers a full array of gauges and looks fantastic but the fuel gaugeand odometer are inoperable. The inner door panels are in similar order. A Retro Sound Zuma AM/FM stereo with USB, MP3 and WMA completes the interior. If you need a vehicle for first aid at your mansion’s or estate’s track or if you’re just looking for something different to take a car show or a cruise night event, you should stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars to check out this 1960 Pontiac Bonneville Custom SuperiorAmbulance. VIN: 860P26937 This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri.Current mileage on the odometer shows 71,009 miles.
