This is a locally owned 1980 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am Official Pace Car. It has had a long term owner and is an unmolested, adult driven, and stock including what we believe is an all original power train (301, automatic and 91464 original miles), AM/FM radio and the PHS documents.

This Turbo Pace car features a 4.9L turbocharged V8 engine, 3 speed automatic transmission, Positraction rear axle with 3.08:1 ratio, WS6 Performance Handling package with 4 wheel disc brakes, t-tops, Oyster interior with hobnail cloth in doeskin vinyl, air conditioning, red lit gauges, power windows, power door locks, power antenna, aluminum wheels, leather stitched steering wheel, tilt, delay wipers, AM/FM radio and cruise control.

Mechanically, everything we tested works aside from the air (worked but does not hold a charge) and the AM/FM radio works on AM only. The vehicle runs, drives and brakes as expected. It has not been tuned up and may benefit from a tune up and carb rebuild at some point. Cosmetically, it has been repainted at some point, and there has been several professional repairs and touch ups to the interior. This does not take away from the outstanding cosmetics of the vehicle. We are amazed at the underbody and how clean it is. It has been undercoated years ago but the metal is solid and it is clean. We are unsure what was added behind the seat in the back and removed. It may have been a larger speaker at some time in it's life. This is visible in the trunk photos.

According to Hitman's Official Trans Am Information Site, The Indy 500 race choose the 1980 Turbo Trans Am to pace the race in 1980. This was the first year that the same car paced both the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500. Pontiac made 5,700 of these cars to replicate the car used to pace The Indianapolis 500. The 1980 Y85 Turbo Pace Car Trans Ams were similar to the 1979 10th Anniversary Trans Am in the paint scheme. The Pace Car had white lower body paint with charcoal upper body paint offset by a tri-color body accent stripes. The decals used were now the larger 5-color turbo hood bird and "Turbo 4.9" on the bulge on the hood designed to accommodate the turbo-charger and 3-light system for the turbo-boost. The Indy 500 emblem was located on the side fenders and the rear tail spoilers. The optional "Indy 500 Pace Car" door decals or the "22nd Annual Daytona 500 Mile Race" door decals were an extra option.

What an outstanding example of a classic 1980 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am Official Pace Car. We are selling this vehicle at a reasonable buy it now or best offer.
