Description of 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2

If you want a usable, eliable, nd affordable 911, our best choice is probably the 964 like this 1990 911 Carrera 2. There's unmistakable 911 DNA in the bodywork, rear-mounted 3.6 liter flat six, nd a slick-shifting Tiptronic transmission that makes it very user-friendly as well.Black always looks predatory on the 911, nd the 964's well-integrated bumpers give it a distinctive look regardless of what color it wears. This one has been lightly modified with a familiar "whale tail" rear spoiler and clear marker lenses, oth of which only increase the performance look. Most of the paint is original, nd despite its age, t remains in good condition, testament to Porsche's legendary build quality. The nose has been repainted at some point, ut the color match was well done and the rear spoiler looks like it was born there. Chrome '911' emblems are on the deck lid, eplacing the "Carrara 2" script for a more traditional look and we have to admit that we love the cleanly integrated taillights which give the 964 in particular a much cleaner look from the rear. The black trim around the windows is still smooth and dark, o it hasn't been sitting out in the sunlight and the rockers haven't been sandblasted by the fat tires, o it's probably led an easy life. The interior is beautiful tan leather whose quality materials and expert workmanship seem to defy the passage of time. There's virtually zero wear on the seats and only light discoloration to the carpets, hich have been protected by Porsche-logo floor mats since it was new. Airbags were relatively new in 1990, ut Porsche's fat steering wheel and direct connection to the front tires is unaltered. Gauges should look familiar to anyone who has driven a Porsche in the last, h, our decades, ith a big tach in the center and flanked by the secondary gauges. And in 1990, ust about everything was standard equipment, ncluding power windows, eats, nd mirrors, /C, lus the Tiptronic transmission, hich was Porsche's first attempt at an automatic transmission, ffering a manual mode that offers plenty of driver involvement. The stereo has been upgraded to an AM/FM/CD setup with a flip-up head unit and while there is a pair of rear seats, hey're really best reserved for children or packages. The front-mounted trunk is fully finished with black carpets and an aftermarket carbon-fiber strut tower brace that really firms up steering feel. The 3.6 liter air-cooled flat six was an evolution of the familiar Porsche powerplant, nd its fat torque curve was designed for American tastes and the automatic transmission. It still howls to redline in every gear, ut it's also supremely docile if you want to drive it to work every day. The 964 is also noted for it's bulletproof reliability, nd thanks to proper maintenance throughout its life, his one is ready to rock. The Tiptronic is a 4-speed with overdrive, o it's a great highway car (as you'd expect with the Autobahn running through its home town) but the reflexes are lightning quick around town and on the track. Underneath, t's shockingly clean with an undertray designed to cheat the wind and a suspension that's comfortable but insanely capable. Gorgeous Porsche Cup wheels wrap around giant disc brakes with painted calipers and wear fat Bridgestone performance radials. Classic Porsche prices are on the move, nd the 964 remains one of the last places to get traditional air-cooled Porsche excellence at a reasonable price. Call today!
