In 1961 Porsche's coupe and cabriolet bodies were built by the Karmann works in Onasbruck. Porsche decided it could broaden the 356 model's appeal and increase sales with a hardtop coupe, hich was achieved by welding hardtops to cabriolet bodies already in supply.
