This 12-year period Porsche was noted for producing some of the most reliable and well-built cars ever…even to this day. I have countless clients who have gone 200k. 300k. even 400k miles on the original motor. They are built like tanks. Of all of these cars. the ones referred to as the “G50” cars have become the most desirable. From 1987 to mid 1989. Porsche stopped making their own transmissions and outsourced the job. This resulted in one of the most durable transmissions ever installed in a Porsche. Some of the 1987 models were known for valve issues. but by 1988 and 1989. these cars were completely sorted out. Half way through their 1989 production year. Porsche ended the Carrera model and began production on the 964 C4. The result is that there are very few 1989 Carreras available. Specifically. Porsche only built 1. 56 coupes for our market. They built nearly 3 times as many open roof cars during that period. This Porsche was built in October of 1988. However. it wasn’t sold new until August 18th. 1989 by Beverly Hills Porsche. CA and kept the car for about 8-years and only put 16. 00 miles on it. The family sold it in 1997 to the 2nd owner who also lived in Orange County. This owner worked as a contractor for Porsche AG on the marketing side. He designed sales brochures for new model Porsches. He sold it about a year and a half ago to the current owner who is a Porsche enthusiast and collector. The current owner bought the car to turn into a hotrod/backdated car. However. the car was just too nice to mess with. Considering that he already has another show quality ’89. he has begrudgingly decided to let this one go. The car is in excellent condition and I would describe it as a high-level driver. When the current owner purchased the car. he had a local mechanic check it out and found it to be well cared-for. This G50 Carrera drives fantastic. It shifts smoothly and accelerates with ease. The steering and braking feel spot on. There are no visible oil leaks or other issues. The cosmetic condition is equally nice. The paint looks fantastic with minimal signs of use. The car was repainted some time ago and was a high level glass-out job. The Fuchs are the correct original finish and look great with no curb rash. The front Dunlops and brakes have about half-life remaining. The rear tires and brakes have less than a third remaining. The interior is in very nice original condition. The seats are in good shape with no tears. The dash and headliner look very nice as well. The door pockets are in great shape with no sagging or warping. All the glass. including the windscreen. is original. All the gauges function properly. The A/C has recently been inspected. serviced. and recharged. It blows ice cold. All the electrical components and lights work. as they should. California registration is paid through August of 2015. This Porsche comes with an extra key. owner’s manual. original spare tire. and jack.
