After two years of work, we are very happy with how stunning it turned out. It is a complete and full restoration. The car was stripped and fully re-sprayed in the 6806 Irish Green factory color. Every nut and bolt has been touched, most of them being re-zinced, like they were new from the factory. The engine is matching numbers and fully balanced and blueprinted. It has a counter weighted, steel crankshaft with a matching set of balanced rods, as well as brand new pistons and cylinders. The heads were machined with a competition valve job, and feature all new valves and springs. Webcam refurbished the original camshaft and a Porsche engine specialist assembled the motor.
All the engine tin was stripped and re-powder coated in the factory finish. A new clutch and rebuilt generator were fitted. Redline furnished a new set of Weber carburetors that have been tuned for the car. All the suspension bushings have been replaced with Elephant Racing rubber bushings and new Koni front inserts were utilized. The entire brake system has been rebuilt or replaced from the calipers to the master cylinder, including new brake lines (hard and soft). Most every rubber gasket has been replaced with new. All the bright work is in excellent condition. Windows work properly, and the pop-out rears are lovely to behold.
The interior is completely redone in very high-quality materials; including leather, Scottish Tartan, and square weave wool carpet. Tony Garcia at Autobahn performed the interior work, and is a world-renowned Porsche specialist.
This is a very special car, 1969 was the only year for a long-wheelbase 912, in 1970 production started on the 914, thus replacing the 912. I know some Porsche historian will bring up the 1976 912, but that really doesn't count, as it has a VW motor in it!
Irish Green is a personal favorite, and although it's not completely original, I think the interior speaks for itself!
We spent over $47k in parts, motor work and paint. I didn't add up our labor, because, well, I'm afraid to...
Let's just say this one was a labor of love and leave it at that.
The car runs like a top and is an absolute joy to drive. It's not for the shy, however; it gets a ton of attention wherever you go! This car is 100% ready to go; we've put a couple hundred miles on it and it is sorted and ready for a new home.
