Description of 1992 Porsche 911

1992 Porsche 911 America Roadster. Grand Prix White, Black Leather, Black Top, 6 speed manual transmission, approximately 46,000 miles.

The America Roadster is one of the rarest 964 models with 1 of 250 produced. Turbo look body, soft top, and a 3.6 liter normally aspirated flat six.

This car has experienced an interesting history. It was sold new in California in July of 1992. From there it suffered an incident that resulted in a Salvage Title being issued in California August of 1996. It stayed in California through 1997 before being auctioned in Illinois to a European Motors in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in late 1998 with approximately 30,000 miles on the odometer. The car has been with the same owner since 1998 and it has moved between his home in Iowa and his lake home in Minnesota since.

Unfortunately, we do not know what happened to the car to result a Salvage Title being issued. Here's what we do know based on recent service work and detailing we performed in an effort to prepare the car for sale. It appears the vehicle suffered some sort of driver's side front damage because there is body work on the front driver's side fender that has cracked and the fender to door gap is not to Porsche standard. Moreover, looking through the front grille area near the turn signals you can detect minor crash damage to the front tub. The rocker panels have been fastened to the car using screws that would not normally be visible had repaired not occurred. We believe the car has been mostly repainted. There are no inner fender liners. The wheels have been replaced with Porsche OEM turbo twist wheels and all wheels are dated 1996. So, was the car stolen and taken for a joy ride only to have "hopped" a curb and caused damage to the front corner, rockers, inner fenders, and wheels? Unsure however that certainly would seem to be plausible based on the current condition of the car. In any event, as you'll note from the pictures the front hood is original as you'll note the option sticker and codes present. You'll also notice the paint tag on the inner front trunk driver's side is intact. You'll also notice an underside that is intact and free of damage in the pictures I've uploaded.

Exterior: As noted, the front driver's fender is in need of repair or replacement. Rocker panels are fastened with screws and the paint on the rockers is badly chipped from road debris. The inner fender liners are not with the car. There are miscellaneous door dings and nicks throughout the car. Lenses are in average condition. All trim, seals, and glass appear to be original and in average condition. Wheels are presentable with some curb rash and one wheel does have a slight bend which we uncovered when we cleaned the wheels and re balanced the tires. The wheel does accept a tire bead and balanced out well. Rear bumper has some discoloration around exhaust outlet. Black soft top is free of tears, rips, stains. Rear window is in good condition. Top appears original. Raises and lowers with no issue and connects to the windscreen appropriately. We have cleaned the car, gone over it with a clay bar, and done a light polish and was. With freshening of the front quarter, rockers, and front and rear bumpers along with some paintless dent removal the exterior could be quite presentable as a driver level car.

Interior: Dash and seats are in very nice condition. Dash is free of any cracks or warping. Seats are nicely mellowed and free of tears or major bolster wear. Carpets are in decent condition with some pulling on the driver's side kick panel. There is some wear throughout the interior in areas such as the sun visors and ebrake handle. I might consider fresh carpet, sunvisors, and repairing the ebrake handle. The door panels are nice. Aftermarket speakers and stereo. The speakers could stand to be replaced as the grilles are adhered to the door panels. With some effort and detailing the interior of the car could be the high point of the car.

Mechanicals: We have not serviced the car although we have driven the car. The car runs excellent and seems to have plenty of power. The transmission functions well as do the clutch and brakes. I would advise that a service would be warranted and the tires are dated 2004 so you will want to replace the tires. I am not sure what the issue is as we did not look into it however there is a slow battery drain with the car so the owner had his shop install a toggle/battery disconnect switch. While it serves it's purpose you may want to address it. I am not sure about the AC as we have not tried it.

In summary, what we have here is a car that hasn't lived the life that most America Roadster's have lived. That said, it's a solid car that could serve as a great donor for a 964 Roadster Outlaw build OR with a moderate investment of money and time it could be a nice driver for 964 cabriolet money.

I am a European Sportscar enthusiast in Iowa. I am representing this car for a friend and have done my best to accurately describe the car. He's owned the car for over 20 years and he's enjoyed it as it is while also performing basic services and repairs. We have taken several pictures of the car and for seriously interested buyers we're happy to share them. The title is in hand with no lien. The car is available for test drive and/or inspection.

The car is sold as is and it is a Salvage Title vehicle. Buyer is responsible for shipping. I will not disclose the reserve other than to say it's fairly priced based on condition, title, and service needs.

Thanks for your interest and best of luck!
