Description of 1973 Porsche 914 Appearance Package

This is a great driver 914. It runs very well and is a blast to drive.
There is no rust on the car. I have owned it for 6 years and have never driven it in the rain or snow. It has been serviced at a German repair specialist since I have had it. It has the appearance package which includes chrome bumpers, fog lamps and cast aluminum Pedrini wheels which many collectors believe to be the preferred wheel. The current mileage is 42,745. My mechanic believes this may be the actual mileage based on the condition of the car but there are no records prior to 2004 so it is not documented.
This is a great investment that you can have fun with at the same time. Hagerty insured this car for $18,000. The values are climbing and it is still a good time to get in. 6 cylinder versions are nearing $100,000. at the top end.https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2018/07/11/get-ready-for-a-six-figure-porsche-914-4 In recent years, the air cooled Porsches have become more and more popular. A quick search of all the big classic car auctions will find very few examples available.
It underwent a major refresh in 2004/2005. Much of that work was done at Automobile Atlanta. Some rust repairs were made at that time to the passenger floor board. It received a new transmission and 1.7 engine and the engine was later bored out to 2.0. It is very strong and reliable. The transmission is a 5 speed manual as was the original. It is painted in Tornado Red (LY3D) which is a Volkswagen color and the outside mirrors were replaced with aftermarket units. The original paint was signal orange. Recent work includes recovered seats and a new alternator among other minor maintenance issues.
There is a crack in the back panel behind the passenger seat as well as a few cracks in the dashboard. The oil pressure gauge is out. The blower motor is disconnected and the heat transfer ducts under the car are missing. There is an oil leak at the oil cooler. There is a rock chip on the leading edge of the passenger side headlamp door. Several paint imperfections in the decklid. The targa panel has two marks from the trunk lid rubbing it when it is stored in the trunk. There is one ding in the drivers door and a few other minor scratches.
This 914 is coming up on it's 50th birthday in a few years and it's major refresh is 15 years old so it's not perfect. It's flaws are minor, it looks great, drives great and will be a great investment as 914 prices climb.
