Description of 1985 Saab 900

Car collector downsizing due to space issues (also selling a 1993 Saab 9000 CSE on Ebay).
This is a very rare beautifully preserved (original paint!) first year 1985 SPG. The 1985's were the last year for the "flat nose" 900 (hood/headlights/grille). The 1985 SPG's cost about $3,000 more in 1985 dollars than standard 900 turbo's. They had exclusive badging, the air-flow body cladding, anti-sway bars, fog lamps, electric sunroof etc. All were black with Sierra tan leather interiors.
I acquired this car two years ago from the original owner, an American military officer who purchased the car new off the showroom floor in Heidelberg Germany. In Germany the car was called the "Turbo 16 Aero" but in the states it has always been called the SPG (Special Performance Group). According to the now 80+ year old original owner, this SPG has never been through a car wash... the beautiful paint is a result of meticulous maintenance, clay bar/waxing and garage storage.
A thick file folder of service records and receipts come with the car including all original dealer purchase paperwork and an ultra rare leather bound brochure for the Saab International Military and Diplomat sales program.
The original owner imported the car in 1990 to the U.S. (California) and later moved to Tennessee. Now garage stored in Central Virginia.
About five years ago the original owner replaced all interior carpet, the headliner and leather seats. The new leather seats match the original factory Sierra tan color and perforated design except for the handsome black seat edge piping and SPG logo embroidered into the front seat headrests (see photo's). The interior still looks brand new with no wear to speak of. It even smells new.
Over the past 35 years and 255,000 miles the following has been replaced with new Saab parts:
Power steering rackbrake rotors (2X)shocks (2x)timing chain (2x)engine (bottom end) (rebuilt 2x)air conditioning system
Blemishes: The original dash is excellent but has typical cracks in the usual spots near the edge of the front speakers (but no more than 1 inch). A small area of rust occurred under the passenger seat from an old a/c leak from under the dash... professionally repaired. The car is otherwise rust free. Many years ago the passenger door lock was popped and was repaired and spot sprayed... you need to get within an inch or two of the car to find the area in question. The clock is not working.
I have owned three Saab SPG's over the past 20 years and this one is far and away the best one. The '85's are the hardest ones to find- and I doubt many still exist with original paint in this condition. The doors close like a bank vault, and it drives down the road like a true European Sports car. I will miss it when it is gone.
I'm losing one of my storage garages on April 1st so I am selling a few cars that don't get much drive time in my collection. I've only driven this car 300 miles in the past two years.
