Description of 1965 Shelby Cobra Grade A accessories

Original 1965 Shelby AC Cobra CSX 24- - 289 slab side

This Cobra was newly purchased at Gotham Ford New York City in early 1965. It is thought that its original owner traded it in at Carter Getty Ford in the spring of 1971. Carter Getty Ford was a small Ford dealer in Westchester County New York, where the son of the dealership peddled used Cobras. My uncle went to Carter Getty’s on July 4, 1971 to look at the 7 Shelby Cobras he had for sale. The cleanest and most cared for car was this 289 slab side. A deal was made to have the car painted to blue from its original green and for its interior to be changed to black from its original cream color. The original motor was freshened up at Holman and Moody, of racing and engine building fame. At that time, the Cobra had 30,000 miles on it.

This car has been cared for and cherished by my uncle for years. The car now has 39,440 miles on it, and most of these miles were put on it within its first 10 years. After that, it was not used much. The car has been in my family for 48 years. The Cobra was in an Old Cars calendar in July of 1979, and it is in the same condition today, in 2019, as it was then and in 1971.

The Cobra came with group A accessories, a hard top, a soft top, side curtains, a Tonneau cover, and chrome wheels. These are all still with the car. I have a New York State inspection slip showing 39,200 miles as of 1993.

This car is a true survivor and is very complete, with low miles and all CSX numbers on hinges and latch with original driveline.
