Description of 1957 Studebaker

1957 Studebaker Transtar Deluxe Stakebed

I have had this little 57 Studebaker for a few years now. It has been a fun little truck. Now I'm working on a different project so this one is going to go. The engine is a 1962 Stude 259 with a 2 barrel. It runs really good. It came is out of my 62 lark. It has the 4 speed transmission. It runs down the road at just under 40 psi, ith 30 psi at an idle. It uses a little oil, ut I think it is mostly the little leak from the timing cover. The upgrades I have done to the engine are electronic ignition and a delco alternator instead of the generator.

I have upgraded the drive train as well. It has a turner Disc brake conversion on the stock straight axle and a chevy 12 bolt rearend for better gears and better brakes. The gears are 3.40. With those gears it cruises very nicely at 65 but also has no problem with 75 mph. I didn't cut anything to put it in so the original dana 44 with crappy brakes could go back in for the purist. The tires are in good shape and are on chevy truck and van rally wheels. It drives really good.

The bed is the best part of the truck. It is an 8 foot flatbed with really nice side boards the all come off. I painted the bed and put new wood in it. Then I made the bows for the custom fit tarp. The tarp was made to fit just right, here is no flapping every on the freeway. It was made by an outfit specializing in over the road trucks. I'm keeping the tool box in the back, t doesn't go with the truck. It has all new lights and wiring on the bed.

There is a little bit of rust in the doors and rear cab corners. The floors are solid. The windshield is cracked. The heat works good, ut the speedometer doesn't. I have just been using my GPS for a speedometer. I added a power port just for that reason.

I don't know whether to call is a rat rod, arm truck, eater with a heater or what. It is a really handy truck for errands and it is fun to drive. I have used it to go to a couple swap meets and it works really good for that.

If you buy my truck in can sit here for a few months if needed until you can come and get it or arrange you own transportation. It will have to be paid for within a week or so. You are welcome to call me and ask questions you might have at 509-999-5730. I won't end the auction early. It will only end early with the Buy it now. You won't find another one quite like this. Thanks for looking and I hope you bid.
