Description of 1980 Toyota Other

1990Toyota Hilux Double Cab 4wd diesel pickup. (see 100+ pictures below!)

(note listing year says "1980" because Ebay forces a North American 17-digit VIN to be entered for 1981-and newer. This truck is a 1990 model.)

I imported this truck from Japan to Canada back in 2007 with about 90,000kms (56,000 miles) and have been driving it almost daily since.

The truck came overfrom Japan in very good condition, equiring only rear brake shoe replacement to pass Alberta's strict out-of-country vehicle inspection requirements. It has been registered and insured in my name in Alberta, anadasince 2007. It now has just over 136,000kms (84,500 miles) on the odometer.

Key Facts

• 1990 "LN106" solid front axle 4wd double cab model currently with 136,200 km (84,500 miles).

• 100% stock - no modifications. Stock intake (with K&N filter installed), riginal Toyota exhaust.

• Original 2.8 liter naturally aspirated diesel (Toyota engine code "3L" ) with 5-speed manual transmission

• Options include: Power Steering, ower Brakes, /C, ower mirrors, riginal AM radio, ilt wheel, liding rear window, ntermittent wipers. Everything works

• Original paint with no evidence of repainting, ody repair, r accidents.

• Limited slip rear differential

This truck is now 25 years old (built Feb 1990) and therefore available for import to the U.S. I understand the process to be relatively straight forward for vehicles 25+ years old, ut the buyer will be responsible for all aspects of the import process and related costs. I can pick you up at the airport and you can drive it home.

The truck runs and drives very well. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere. It tracks straight down the road at highway speeds, teers well, hifts well, rakes evenly, nd is easy to drive. The A/C blows cold. In cold weather it will start at temperatures down to about -15 degrees Celsius (~5 degrees F). For colder temps there is a lower rad hose heater (600W Temro Zerostart) that works well and will enable starting down to -30C (-22F), r probably even lower temperatures, f plugged in for 3-4 hours.

The truck has been VERY reliable and has had consistent regular maintenance to keep it that way during my ownership since 2007. I've been using Shell Rotella T6 Synthetic 0W40 oil in the winter, nd 15W40 in the summer, sing quality WIX oil and fuel filters. The oil has been changed every spring and fall regardless of mileage, hich has always averaged less than 3000 miles per oil interval since 2007. It does not burn oil between oil changes. In the past year the coolant was replaced with long life diesel coolant mixed 50/50. In 2007, he transmission, ransfer case, nd both axles were drained and filled with new gear oil (75w90 Synthetic everywhere except the rear axle which prefers 80w90 non-synthetic mixed with LSD additive). Last winter (2014), he front and rear axle oil was changed again.

In addition to basic maintenance (fluids and filters), ther routine maintenance work has included:

• Rebuilding both front knuckles during the winter of 2014. All parts were top-quality sourced from the 4x4 shop "Marlin Crawler", ncluding new knuckle bearings, nd all related seals and gaskets. The wheel bearings were cleaned and repacked at that time. Front brake components were replaced at the time, rake calipers, otors and pads were all replaced as well, ith upgraded NAPA premium brand powder coated 4-piston (4-Runner) calipers and new pads, nd new heavy duty LandCruiser Rotors. The brake fluid was flushed and replaced at the same time.

• Replacing all 4 glow plugs during the winter of 2014 due to hard starting in cold weather. (2 of the factory original glow plugs tested bad, o all 4 were replaced with new NGK units). A compression test was performed while the glow plugs were out, nd all 4 cylinders measured between 480PSI and 500PSI.

• New tires were installed during winter 2014. They are 31x10.5 inch Motomaster brand "Total Terrain AT/2 LT" . Motomaster is the house brand of popular Canadian retailer "Canadian Tire", nd are made by made by Cooper Tire. These tires get good reviews and perform well in all 4 seasons. They have about 2000 miles on them now.

In the interest of full disclosure, he truck has just a few minor defects as follows:

• a small vinyl rip in the lower part of the drivers seat. A local upholstery shop has quoted $150 to replace the bottom seat vinyl.

• a small rust spot under the rear sliding window. This spot was that was there when the truck came over from Japan in 2007. I have treated it occasionally with "Rust Check"penetrating oil spray to keep it at bay. The spot has not grown noticeably since 2007. There are no leaks around the window.

• Some rust is forming at the lower inside edges of the doors. (see pictures). The rust is not showing through to the outside of the doors.

• The tailgate is dented on the right hand side. The is cosmetic damage and does not affect the operation of the gate.

• Some rock chips above the windshield that were not repaired, nd now have some surface rust forming. (see pictures)

• Minor rock chips on the front of the hood and front fenders. (see pictures)

• A few other cosmetic blemishes in the paint and trim pieces, ight scratches, tc, ost of which can be identified in the pictures.

• There is some oil sweating around the valve cover gaskets and the oil pan, ut nothing is dripping on the ground.

Overall the truck is a very solid example, nd it will be hard to part with. But finances and a growing family mean it is time for someone else to enjoy it!
