Description of 1972 Toyota Land Cruiser

1972 Land Cruiser FJ40

BONUS for "BUY IT NOW"...

"Buy it Now" and We'll Include & install a NEW Dakota Digital Gauge Package!

We purchased this Numbers Matching Land Cruiser in November of last year. The previous owner had it for 7+ years, nd typically used it twice a year in the summer for camping. When not used, the Cruiser wasalwaysgaraged. It had a "mild"restoration 3 or 4 years before he purchased it.At the time of that restoration, ftermarket gauges were installed, red paint job, riginal seats were replacedwith a set up from a74 FJ, ndercoating, ew clutch & motor workdone (unfortunately, don't know the details on the motor work). We do know that (via aftermarket gauges/odometer) thatthe work was done 10,459 miles ago. Runs good & strong, oes not blow any smoke...it doescurrently havea"tick" noise... most likely avalve that was not adjusted properly... as soon as the weather gives us a break where we can get it hot enough, e'll check it..

Previousrestorationwasnot the best I've seen, ut overall, he restoration did its job... preserved the Cruiser well. And, ther than the brake master wasleaking (we replacedbrake master & vacuum booster)...thisCruiser has no leaks. Title is clear & clean, ith the exception of mileage will read "0000 or unknown". Given the general condition... and that this FJ40 hasn't been "built"... I don't believe this is a high miler, nd definitely shows no signs of "wheeling" and/or abuse. The previous restoration did correct a rust issue - looked to be rusting of a couple of holes that were most likely drilled & never treated by an earlier owner (repair is shownin pictures below). We opened up the repair area from thebottom...No active rust was found...cleaned/degreased, ashed with metal prep, ainted with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator, filled seam between hole & repair plate with seam sealer & then closed the repair flat andsprayed entire underside of the tub with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator (you almost have to know the repair is there to see it from top or bottom... you won't see it if you're not looking for it). Other than that & the tool box bottom (see note below),there were no rust issues to tackle.

The previous restoration - The entire underside was coated with, hat I believe to be, ome type of rust prevent type material (POR15 Type?)... and where the metal was prepped well, s done in the repair mentioned above, as all but impossible to remove. Where they couldn't reach for proper prep(about 90% of the body & frame), he coating flaked off in quarter size pieces. Using a vibrating scraper (detail sander w/blade),we removed the majority of the coating & revealeda very nice Tub & Frame(see pictures below).

Some Beauty Shots...waiting for rain to go away for outdoor pictures

Original6 Cylruns strong. Starts right up cold (just don't over choke it), eeds 3-5 minutes to warm& is ready to roll.Original 3spd (one of only a few years it was standard on the floor) coupled to a newer clutch shifts smooth. Drives, uns, teers, ides & Stops great!4 Wheel Drive works as it should (tested on pavement... in fact, t hasn't been off pavement or in the rain since build), eater/Defrosterfan blows on hi setting only.Lights, ipers, ents, etc all work as they should . The Paint... To a paint critic - 7/8 out of 10... it's very solid & we're proud to stand next to it (it's not a $10k-15k paint job).Filler was used sparingly, ostly to cover welds when shavingantenna& oldsoft top holes... our intentionwas never tocreate"showroom flat panel" finish, e wanted it to look like it was 45 yrs old (but well cared for)... the Vintage look- With some Comfort & Personal Attitude... And we're very happy with the result!
