Description of 1990 Toyota Hilux

1990 LN106 Hilux with 115,545km or 71,869mi on the clock. This truck was imported from Canada last year and is legally registered in Montana with a clean title in my name. Since eBay doesn't recognize the 14-digit JDM VIN here it is: LN106-0037739. Some quick specs:- 3L 2.8 liter NA diesel- 5-speed manual
- Solid front axle
- Double cab
Recent maintenance (within the last few hundred km):
- New timing belt
- Timing belt tensioner and idler
- New water pump
- Coolant flush
- Oil change
- Rear diff rebuild and fresh fluid
- New e-brake cable
- Freshly bled brakes
- New alternator
This Hilux is a blast to drive, and has great power (for a 3L). The engine starts beautifully with one glow and no smoke, even in single digit temperatures, and idles smooth. The transmission shifts great, and there are no funny noises from the drivetrain. 4wd Hi and Lo range work as they should, and with the torque from the diesel this thing will go anywhere you point it. It is running older 31" mud terrain tires with good tread, even wear and no cracking or checking. The suspension is still as it left the factory, and could definitely use a refresh. The front leaves are starting to sag a bit and the shackle bushings are worn out.
The interior is in fantastic condition, as would be expected with the low mileage. All seats including the driver's are in great shape, and there are no cracks in the dash. The factory Hilux floor mats present well, with some wear on the driver's mat. The radio has been upgraded to a North American compatible unit with bluetooth, but I haven't tested to see how the speakers do.
Body rust is limited to the bottoms of the doors, one of the cab corners and along the top rim of the bed. Rockers, fenders and wheel wells are solid. There is no through rust, but it should be taken care of sooner than later. The paint has seen better days; at some point a previous owner decided to touch up fledgling rust spots with poorly-matched white spray paint, and it doesn't present well. The chassis looks crusty, but is still very solid. Most of the rust on the underside is on the suspension and exhaust.
This Hilux would make a great daily driver and weekend off-roader, and with a few upgrades could be a formidable trail rig or overland truck. As is I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere, mechanically it is extremely sound. These double cab diesel Hiluxes are getting pretty tough to find, especially with a solid front axle.
