1965 Triumph TR-4A

Frame off restoration
All systems new or rebuilt
Complete books and receipts

Up for bids is this show quality Triumph TR4A. This car was completely restored, frame off, every nut and bolt. A full mechanical rebuild was also done - engine, tranmission, clutch and differential, as well as full rebuilds of the suspension and brakes. The car has logged just over 3000 trouble free miles since, it is fully road tested and at the top of its game. The car comes with all of the receipts detailing the restoration, totalling over $38,000. This is a truly exceptional example of one of Triumph's most iconic models.

The car was taken completely apart, the frame, body panels and tub were all stripped down to metal. Finished in its original color of Signal Red, code 32, the car is pretty incredible everywhere you look. The body panels are all excellent with absolutely zero rust issues and good panel fit. 350 man hours were spent on the body and paint, the 2 stage paint has a terrific finish and is about a mile deep. On close inspection I've spotted a few areas where you can see faint sanding marks underneath the paint, not very noticeable, I just don't like to advertise any paint as being "perfect". This is close.
The wheels are 60 spoke Daytons mounted on Kumho tires in 165-80-15. This $2000 wheel tire combo is from Hendrix Wire Wheel in NC, they are Dayton's official service facility. Hendrix mounts, balances and trues wire spoke wheels after they are already mounted on the tires. The result are wheels that run perfectly with no wobble or shimmy. Hendrix Wire Wheel

Both bumpers and over-riders are new, there's one minor flaw at the top of the front bumper, just right of center, but overall they present very well. Fender beading is all new, the anodized grill is in excellent condition, all of the chrome trim on the car is terrific except for some minor pitting on the passenger side signal assembly. All of the car's weatherstripping is new, every piece.

Lights and lenses are all excellent. The boot cover fits perfectly.

Front and rear valance are both perfect with no damage. The World emblem and Triumph letters are new front and back.

The windshield is a high quality Pilkington replacement with no flaws. Gasket, insert and apron are also new.
Sunfast tonneau cover with good fit. Refinished trunk with jacking equipment and knock off hammer.

Robbins top is in as-new condition and latches down easily.

The interior has been completely redone with new upholstery, carpet, door perimeter edging, and panel kit.

Door panels have the correct heat embossed accent lines, most reproduction panels out there are stitched. The window channels are all new, as well as the weather seals and felt strips. The dash is a custom made Zebrano wood assembly and really sets this Triumph apart on the show field. Both upper and lower dashpads are new and without flaw.

A glance under the dash shows the extent of the restoration, it's like looking at a new car. A new wiring harness means that every electrical item in this car is working correctly. Yes, Lucas, the Prince of Darkness, has been foiled in this car. All gauges work correctly and show good, consistent readings. Lights, signals, fan, wipers, horn - all working. The speedometer and tachometer were sent to Nisonger Instruments in NY for rebuilding.

The motor has been completely rebuilt and balanced with new 87mm pistons and liners, bearings, camshaft, timing chain, etc. The head was sent to The Roadster Factory for rebuilding and features hardened valve seats for use with unleaded fuel. The motor is using Brad Penn motor oil with a high ZDDP content, something all old cars need today in light of the EPA's restriction on this important additive.
The car fires right off and runs strongly. I had the opportunity to take the car on a 300 mile road trip and it was brilliant from start to finish. The motor has a smooth, balanced powerband with excellent throttle response, matched by an exhaust note that will bring a smile to your face. The car shifts flawlessly, the gearbox and clutch were completely rebuilt. All hydraulic systems in the car are new, the entire suspension is new with rebuilt rear lever shocks and new urethane bushings throughout . This combined with the balanced wheels redefines the word nimble, the car handles excellent. The cooling system has been gone through, the car runs right at 70C at all times. At one occassion on my trip I had to sit in stop and go freeway traffic for an hour and the temp needle stayed at 70C at all times. An electric fan for the radiator has been installed, thermostatically activated as well as with a manual over-ride switch in the cabin.

Original Traflagar washer bottle and bracket, these are not available as reproductions. New voltage regulator as well as voltage stabilizers at the instruments. The distributor and coil are both new units from Pertronix. The SU carbs are rebuilt and have new throttle linkages from Burlen Fuel Systems in the UK.

A redundant hood release cable kit has been installed, peace of mind for any TR4 owner. New clutch and brake master cylinders. Rebuilt wiper motor. The original commission number plate is included. Rebuilt generator and starter.

A mountain of receipts are included, just looking at the suspension assembly in the 4th photo shows you the level of detail present in this restoration.

The undercarriage shows that this car's beauty is not skin deep. Featured is a full stainless exhaust from the header back, rebuilt calipers and drum assemblies, 3/4" sway bar, and a rebuilt steering rack. Additionally, the entire rear axle assembly was shipped to The Roadster Factory and rebuilt. No shortcuts, no compromises. This car is ready for the road.
