Description of 1972 Triumph TR-6

Act now, because this may be one of the last chances you have to buy a clean TR6 for reasonable money. Prices have been inching up steadily on these awesome little roadsters, and this 1972 example makes it easy to understand why. With a brawny inline-six, fantastic styling, and timeless charm, the TR6 is on the verge of becoming an A-list collectable. With a classic look augmented by a few smart upgrades, this is British sports car distilled to its purest form. Nicely restored, and beautifully maintained and upgraded as needed, the result is a gorgeous white roadster with a ton of charisma. The TR6 might be the most handsome of all the Triumph TR-series roadsters, and although it's merely an updated version of the TR4, the styling updates came together just right and the car is ideally proportioned with great style. The paint is '70s cool and in very good condition, although a professional buff would really wake it up, and those red and blue stripes are ideal for early the early 1970s. It has a sporting look beyond merely "cute roadster" and that's likely why these cars are appreciating so rapidly. It also features the traditional blacked-out tail panel and as an early car, still carries its small chrome bumpers rather than the big rubber units that came later. This really is a great looking car.Settle yourself behind the wheel and you'll discover it's also a great driving car. You'll discover the joys of minimalism when you're in it, as the car seems to fit you like clothing and there's very little insulation between you and the driving experience. Recently reupholstered tan buckets offer good support for sporting driving, and the pedals are ideally placed for heel-and-toe shifting. That dashboard is genuine wood and filled with lovely Smiths gauges that are elementally British. A leather-wrapped steering wheel dances in your hands during aggressive driving, letting you know exactly what the front wheels are doing and the 4-speed (yes, it has overdrive too) shifts neatly, although the engine makes so much torque it's often unnecessary. There's even a decent amount of trunk space for a weekend trip and a JVC AM/FM/CD stereo head unit for entertainment along the way. The black convertible top is in excellent condition and stows easily, and we note there's also a brand new tan top that matches the interior, which will be included with the car.The reason for the top-down driving is the engine, which has one of the most wonderful exhaust notes this side of an Aston-Martin. The 2.5 liter inline six is plenty potent in the lightweight roadster and with a few choice upgrades, it remains a thrill to drive. Most notably, there's a finned valve cover and custom tubular intake and exhaust manifolds, all designed to improve breathing. Twin carburetors inhale through a color-matched air filter assembly and the condition of all the little parts, clamps, wiring, and fasteners suggest that the work is rather recent. There's even a Lucas label on the battery to add a bit of authenticity. The aforementioned 4-speed shifts beautifully and clutch action is light, so you'll feel right at home within a few miles of getting behind the wheel. The all-independent suspension is a pleasant surprise on a car in this price range and the beautiful polished stainless steel exhaust system is like artwork. Chrome wire wheels are always right on a British roadster, and the 185R15 redline radials are very much like what it would have worn originally. This TR6 is fully sorted, and has been owned by an experienced enthusiast, so it works as it should and is a delight to drive.
