For your consideration is a nice, riginal paint 1967 Volkswagen split window bus. With mixed emotions, am selling this because I have another project to get off the ground and my garage space is limited. It comes just like you see it with a vintage wood VW half-roof rack, eluxe trim and rear window jail bars. This is relatively rare custom Sundial camper that was outfitted in California. They are long out of business but they did a good bit of outfitting VW's from the factory. There is some good info online on them. There are a bit more rare than most campers out there and the quality was regarded as very good. I've had this old bus for about six years now and have loved owning and using it. It's been well taken care of and always garaged. It's never been stuck in the rain but it has been on a few long camping trips. Unlike most on the east coast, his bus is not clapped out - you can drive this as it is without the need to do a complete restoration. This bus in not tarted up with a shiny new paint job, ondo and vinyl interior that hides imperfections. Instead, his baby comes to you with 48 years of wrinkles and battle scars! It wears it's original paint with pride. I'll be happy to promptly answer any questions, ut please read for more detailed information. I know this bus inside out so I can tell you anything on it. --------- The body is overall in really great shape. The nose is not crunched like so many of these. There are no wavy creases in the body. Read on for rust info (they ALL have rust) but there is nothing scary on this one. - The engine is a DP 1600. It runs great and starts on first key bump everytime and has the usual VW oil spotting. I do not know the history of this engine prior to my owning it - I was told that the previous owner rebuilt it. The way it runs out, wouldn't doubt it. I may have put 1500 miles on this since owning it. Not much. I drive all of my cars like an old man - this one begs it more than others. I've never allowed it to run hot and I've never had it over 55. - It has a Freeway Flyer trans that shifts fine and has been serviced with synthetic. I swapped the original bushing with a urethane one and it's a world of difference. - All electrics work minus horn and the high beams. Looks like when the bus was lowered the horn wires were disconnected. The high beam switch has play, o I assume it just needs replacement. It worked fine when I bought it so it gave up the ghost. - BRM wheels with OK tires. I'd say they're at 60-70%. - Narrowed beam and drop spindles - I've looked but I cannot tell which kit this bus was outfitted with. I got it the way you see it. - Missing the door panels and interior nose panel. - Original tool kit/jack is included!- Original interior is in pretty good shape considering the age. It's missing the factory sink/cooler and the rear facing seat. The Z-bed, losets and paneling are in decent shape. The original vinyl seat covers look OK, ut there are some stains and small tears. Doesn't look bad and it certainly conforms to the look of the bus overall. - Original cream white paint on 95% of bus. It shines OK and has it's share of paint chips and nicks, ut it's all there. 5% of the paint is relegated to the top in grey primer from a tree damage repair long ago. To do this, they' cut into the overhead console and patched in some beetle panels. It really doesn't look bad and it's not noticeable until you're inside the bus. Donor panels are available and I could get you in touch with a gentleman that has one for cheap. It never really bothered me, o I never fixed it. It doesn't leak or look awful, o I let it be. - Patina for days but very little rot - Nothing structural at all. As you can see in the images, here are only a few areas of rust. All areas you see have been killed with phosphoric acid, old galvanizing, nd/or Penetrol to coat it. The areas that are of note: Under the passenger nose seam (a common spot that is not very bad in this case). Under the double doors/Passenger rocker - Some holes are present, ut not bad at all. In fact you cannot see the rust when the doors are closed. The doglegs are in good shape, ut on the passenger side there is some small holes that are no longer actively rusting. There is a small hole at the battery tray (nothing to fret as it's been neutralized and it doesn't affect the battery area structurally.) The cargo floor is in good shape, ut it has some holes that were drilled from the Sundial facilities when the sink, tc. were being installed. The front floors are great, ith no holes or rust. - Original first year 12 volt system is charging and working like it should. Stop lights, unning lights, eadlights, ll turn signals, nd hazards work. - Brakes are original drums - plan your stops ahead of time or convert the fronts to discs. - No over-riders on front bumper - no rear bumper.- The key work all locks. I only have one key for it. - Clean Georgia title.- All glass is original and the front windows have a couple spiders from long ago. All jalousie windows are greased and working. Front windows have some silicone around the seals from the previous owner. - Deluxe trim from an older bus and rear jail bars in back window. The wood roof rack is in pretty good shape and look like a champ on it. - Has it's 1967 radio-delete block off plate. Under the parcel tray is nice, mall AUX-in stereo with two speakers mounted to either side of the tray. Plug in and play your iPhone or device. It sounds good for how tiny and discreet it is and you cannot see the system without hunting for it. - Rides, hifts, tops as good as any 48 year old bus would in my humble opinion. I just put in new KYB front shocks two weeks ago so it'll take a pot hole. ------This bus is ready to drive as it sits, ut add some safaris and some 914 discs and you're ready to camp or show it. As most who have these will tell you; these get a lot of attention so be ready to talk about it. The next owner will get an honest and original split window that is ready to go. Restore it or use it in all it's OG glory.Again, f you're not seeing something or have specific questions, lease ask. It's being sold with no warranty - as is (there's not much to go wrong on these though). The bus is located six miles outside of Atlanta and is right off the interstate. I'll be glad to help you out with shipping, oading, orking with the driver/transport company and I could store it in my garage for an agreed upon time. They didn't make most of the pictures, ut they look great on the bus.
