Description of 1973 Volkswagen Type III

When was the last time you saw one of thes, ther than perhaps on a Southern Californiabeach with a surfboard strapped to the roof.?
Now available for your consideration is a nicely driver quality restored, nd recommissioned wagon, very rare to find car in the automotive marketplace, ypeIII "Squareback" VW wagon. Given their infrequent availability, ome of these iconic Squarebacks can command eye popping prices in nice condition.
Absolutely fun to drive, ery iconic, nd representing the last year of production for this chassis, t has been completely refinished in Safari yellow, ts interior completely replaced, nd many new items grace its chassis inclusive Mini light style alloy wheels, nbsp;new windshield, ew window and door weatherstrips, nbsp;additional pop-out side vent windows and factorytachometer (not installed, ut illustrated herein), nd much more. Additionally, he Type IIIis equipped with a very rare original roof rack. Yes, t will hold your Surfboard, .....or mother in law.
The "Squareback" as it is commonly referred to received an engine overhaul at around 60K miles accordingthe former owner, t which time he installed dual Webercarburetors in place of the factory fuel injection. The engine starts, uns an drives nicely, an be a bit cranky when cold due to the dual Weber carburators, owever runs nicely after a few minutes, nbsp;and its fourspeed fully synchromesh transmission shifts nicely with no issues. Handling is uncharacteristically superb with no over or understeer issues. Currently the odometer is intermittent, owever the car was not operated over the last nine years, hile being restored. The speedometer does functions normally, s do the other gauges.
Not shown, he rear seat indeed does fold down flat toaccommodate larger loads, very convenient option. Great place for your dog.....or??
Its body is pretty much rust free with a previous small floor repair below the battery, typical) and directly under the front seat, ery nicely done. A small bubble is noticeable to the lower left fender at the intersection of the left door, pproximately thesize of a quarter. The paint overall is in very nice condition as the pictures illustrate. Upholstery, arpet and headliner, s previously mentioned are in excellent condition.
Recent servicing included new NGK plugs, il replacement (synthetic 10/40 Castrol), uel filter, ront wheel bearing replacements, oolant flush (just kidding), ir filter cleaning (the Weber's use foam), ew German brake rotors, heel bearings, nd pads, aliper overhaul, rake fluid flush, ynthetic gear oil replacement, ecent 4 new tires, nd a complete detailing with Zymol Carnauba wax.
This is a fun and delightful driver quality car which can be driven anywhere with confidence. The Type III's are excellent urban cruisers, however don't expect "break neck"acceleration or "007" high speed driving. Rare in their numbers, hey are great cars to own, nd many owners are now modifying them with lowered suspension, hitewalls, tc, iving them that "Retro" appearance. Parts availability is fabulous and they are easy toservice and maintain.
