Description of 1972 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia

This auction is for this classic, ostly original (original color), 2 VW Westfalia Camper Bus. This bus was recently purchase as a project from the 3rd owner who I purchased it from (the 1st 2 owners were in the same family) - It's a California car! Unfortunately, fter proceeding with the restoration... more pressing matters have come up and I must sell it in its current condition. The bus has very little rust and what rust it does have is minor and will be shown in the photos (and surface rust here and there). The paint is marginal at best (poor paint job)... although as you can see it is a good 10 footer... very photogenic!! What I would do if I were keeping it... 1st the engine needs work! It hasn't run in quite a while. It has a major oil leak but a mechanic said it could be just the oil cooler? Battery is dead but when we hooked up a good battery it did turnover and sounded like it wanted to start (probably bad gas).
So this bus is non-running and must be towed from current location or picked up for shipping. I've been told that $1500 for a major overhauling should take care of the engine. Paint job... this could vary depending on how extensive you want to go, .e. - just painting the yellow bottom half or the whole van ($500-$2000). Or, ust keep it as is... still looks good and would make a great driver! I wouldkeep the interior as is (original looking) and just tidy it up a bit more (I have brand new front door panels in a box). One tire needs replacing ($60) and let's say another $500 miscellaneous. Brakes & clutch seem good. The camper pop-top is in great condition! With that said, fter completing this project I would imagine this Westfalia being worth the north side of $20k. The title is clean and it's currently registered thru September 2016. This '72 VW bus is sold as is... NO WARRANTY. If So Cal local resident, eel free to set an appointment to come see it. $500 deposit is due within 24 hours and the balance is due 3 days after auction is over. The reserve, think, s reasonable... GOOD LUCK BIDDING!!
