Description of 1980 Volkswagen Golf GTI 4 Cyl

Hi,
You are looking at the infamous Hung South racing VW GTI. It has participated in many Lemons and Chumpcar races, with a 2nd place finish at Carolina Motorsports park. We also had many other great finishes at Barber Motorsports park, Road Atlanta, VIR....
It has a full roll cage, racing seat, belts, window net brackets... needed to go road racing. It does look a little rough, and does have some rust. It has been banged around some on the way to the front of many races.
It has a freshly built VW 2.0L 16 valve ABF clone engine. Good cams, megasquirt, 5 speed transmission with 3.89:1 final drive and limited slip differential. It has 15 x 9" wheels, which help make this car handle great. We were able to pass on the outside, inside, top and bottom of most other cars out there with ease.
The car has been put on a severe diet. Lexan rear windows, complete interior removal, sunroof removal, gutted doors.... This lighness also make the car fast and easy on wear components.
The car is very reliable and low maintenance. It gets great fuel mileage, is easy on tires and brakes. We were able to complete the 24 hours at VIR without changing any tires or brakes for wear. It has coil over springs all the way around, with new Bilstein shocks on the back, and older struts on the front. It has special motor mounts and an air to oil - oil cooler, so it can run all day long with no overheating issues.
The tires on the car are well worn and hard. They will need to be replaced prior to racing the car competitively.
The car is located in the Columbia SC area, and we have other accessories available if you are interested including two way radios, lights, cool suit cooler.... at an added cost.
The car has a clean title, but can never be registered on the street again. Too much stuff removed. Please feel free to ask questions if you would like to buy the car. You will need a trailer or tow dolly to take it home.
