Description of 1965 Volkswagen El Lobo Dune Buggy

Relisted since eBay cancelled the original auction because I had included a link to an outside website. So... let's try this again.

Up for grabs is a terrific piece of California automotive history. Back in the 60's a company called The Buggy House in Hayward, California created a two-piece dune buggy body that easily installed on a Volkswagen chassis. Similar to the Meyers Manx, this allowed acustomer toeasily convert an everyday Volkswagen Beetle into pure fun and they called it the "El Lobo"!

This El Lobo is based on and titled as a 1965 Beetle and is powered by arebuilt 1600 cc dual port engine. A standard 4-speedmanual transmission puts the power to the rear end. I'm helping a friend sell the car and he's owned it for 2 1/2 years and has had a blast with it! Inthesummer of 2017 anewlyrebuiltenginewas installed and the owner has putapproximately 700 miles on it since. New tie rods and a new clutchcable have also been installed. Thecar is equipped with a 4-pointsafety harness for the driver and passenger and has a roll cage. As you can see from the photos, the buggy has a retractable, roll back vinyl roof if the sun is too bright. As it's a 1965 model, it is California smog exempt. It starts up easily, goes and and stops a bit better than a 1965 Beetle normally wouldbecause ofthe El Lobo's lighter body. Ready for on- or off-road fun!

There are fewthingsthis ride does not have:

No directional signals - so you'll have tobrush up on your hand signals. No speedometer or odometer - so you won't know exactly how fast you're going or how far you've been.No gas gauge or emergency brake. All these items can easily be added by the nextownerifpreferred. As you can see from the large detailed photos below, there is a crack in the fiberglass on the front left portion of the front "hood". The seats have covers on them. The original seat fabric is pictured as well. Although very period, the driver's seat has some tears. A car cover and anti-theft Club is included with the car.

Back when hefirstgot the car the owner showed it at a local air-cooled, Volkswagen car show in Oceanside, CA and it was awarded 1stplacein the off-roadcategory. I guess that makes it "award-winning”El Lobo. This Lobo waspurchasedin San Diego and made the 140 trip to Palm Springs without issue.

This El Lobo was featured on a recent episode of Jay Leno's Garage where itreceived a value quote of $9,500.The owner actually drove the car to his home in Palm Springs from Burbank after thetaping of the show. It also did great on the 115 mile trip.
