Description of 1960 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Samba

1960 23 Window Samba Tribute Bus
Sadly, due to the insatiable appetite of my '87 Syncro Westfalia 1.8T, I must part ways with this awesome bus after only a year and a half since I had it built/ restored. One of them has to go for financial reasons and since one is a 4WD and I am a fisherman... the Samba is for sale.
This bus is a replica / tribute build 1960 based upon a 1980 Bay window chassis. It was painstakingly restored down to bare metal to like new condition. Paint is bright and clean in Turkis Green.
Interior is a custom camper with rock 'n roll bed, tons of storage and even a pop up flat screen tv (unused) and mini VW novelty fridge (unused). Included in the sale are two nice roof racks and the green checked curtains. (racks are cool looking and functional but do not fit in my garage)
Engine is a fresh 1776 cc dual port built from scratch at "The Buggy House" in Hayward, CA with under 1000 miles on it. These guys are gear heads that do things right and I couldn't recommend them any higher for air cooled engines in the SF Bay Area. Some would argue that this is the best overall engine design for the split window bus. There is adequate power and the reliability is super without all the heat being generated by the bigger "bomber" engine displacements that are out there. This thing just runs. This was the second engine that the BH guys have built for me in the past 3 years. Starts every time, even after sitting for two or three weeks.
While the engine was out, we decided to rebuild the transaxle and replace the gas tank and sender as well so the entire fuel system would be new and safe. I have all records of course. I would have no issues driving this bus down the coast highway to LA and back tomorrow or driving it daily.
The bus has always been garaged... There is also wiring in place for an auxiliary battery to run stereo and TV. The sun roof is fully functional and HUGE.
If you have always dreamed of having a 23 Window Samba but are taken aback by the insane price tag for an original 21 or 23 window in ANY condition, you will be pleasantly surprised how well it drives and how much attention it draws in public. I could easily see someone using it for marketing purposes as well to make some bank.
The bus holds a clean California Title in my name and is actually newly registered as well. It is smog exempt.
Please see my eBay sellers record. I take great pride in that record and want any buyer to be 100% satisfied.I have sold a '66 Split and a '77 Bay over the past few years to buyers in AK and the UK respectively and am proud to say that they are both happy bus owners and still "friends" with me! They bought their busses sight unseen - but I always recommend that you hire an inspector or come check it out in person and drive it. If you do wish to consider shipping the bus - I am happy to assist and even hook you up with the above referenced buyers who can attest to their experience buying from me upon request.
Thanks for looking -
John
