Description of 1976 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia camper |
October of 2002, my 15 year old son and I head out from Omaha to Littleton, Colorado on an adventure, our first really nice VW camper bus. The bus was very nice and pretty much as described. While represented as an original paint 61,000 bus, turns out it had a very nice repaint over a rust free body. The engine was rebuilt the month before. The owner was planning that his daughter would drive to College and rebuilt as a precaution. Turns out that was not her plan. After driving 500 miles back to Omaha, we did minimum upgrading over the years. 1. Put new foam in the two front seats 2. Detailed and painted engine bay and parts 3. Added Mercedes wheels and heavier truck tires 4. Replaced cracked windshield with new seal 5. Stainless muffler 6. Brakes and battery along the way 7. Upgraded to short shifter (have original) 8. Replaced the front carpet just to keep original in good shape The bus has been stored in a heated and air conditioned garage for the last 16 years. Currently, has a little over 82,000 miles. Bus runs great and looks great. I own several busses so this one gets its turn on a yearly Buskateer two week trip, normally 2,500 miles or more. It runs flawlessly. I have a new camper project so will be selling this and a Splittie and Vanagon. Would not hesitate to drive anywhere. Steering is as tight as I have driven in a Bay. If it needed it, I did it. |
