Description of 1981 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon

This is a 1981 Vanagon Westfalia that has had a lot of work and repairs done to get it back in the road and operational for recreational use. It was purchased thru a 501 c-3 recycling program in Royal Oak, Michigan a few years ago. The interior is in good shape and utilities all work such as the gas stov, fridge (and kitchen sink). Propane tank is full. The pop-up camper canvas has some years of weather exposure but is mostly patched up with some vintage fabric. It has two pull out tables and fold down lower bed. Many nooks and storage spaces thru out main battery is located under the passenger seat. Really did not want to sell this and is nostalgic to drive anywhere lots of friendly compliments wherever it goes. Hoping it does go to a good owner who will continue the restoration project as I have thus far. I simply need to sell it and manage a much larger project here in Detroit (also a 501 c-3) Intentional community center.

The vehicle condition as stated above is drivable and the engine has average power due to a compression issue that will require considerable investment to ever have fully restored and would be worth the investment as these are now being classified as collector vehicles that qualify for classic auto insurance with a high amount for resale. Much of the wiring and electrical has been redone in past couple years, spark plugs and recent valve adjustment to the engine which is recommended every 300-500 miles as it is the original engine. Stereo has been installed so it does have a working radio and tape deck. Speedometer is not working so actual mileage is estimated to above 100,000 but we are not sure. Lights all work with exception of one passenger side parking light and one or two interior lights most of all of them work just fine. The engine on this vehicle is below the bed in the rear and runs quiet from inside the cabin, vents have air flow (fans) but no AC or much heat to speak of. Rear hatch has new struts as does the rear wheels including a muffler I put in about a year and a half ago. Recently I had repaired the steering coupler to tighten up the front steering is functioning safely now. I replaced the rear bumper last spring. It has snow tires on the rear for better traction. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
