Description of 1968 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Deluxe

Another "Carona casualty..." Something my wife and I hate to sell but it's got to be done to free up some money. An excellent car for the price that will bring somebody serious smiles per miles. They can't quarantine you from enjoying the open road! What better way to socially distance yourself then carving the countryside in a rag top Karmann Ghia.
Up for grabs is this beautifully restored early 1968 Karmann Ghia. The car was carefully stripped down and painted in the wonderful period L87 Pearl White VW color you see. Like a subtle Old English white tone, which makes the lines on this car incredibly classy against all of its bright chrome work. Very nice driver car quality, looks as good in person as pics show. The car was entirely gone over and is rust free and ready for cruise nights (if we ever get to congregate in a group again!) The 1968 model was a one year only model in a lot of ways and is a very desirable "early" model with its smaller turn signals, lower profile accentuated chrome work, over rider bumpers, steel dash, one year only map light rear view etc. (And the map light works!) All the good body styling before California safety rules really started mucking about with car designs in the name of safety! Body lines are all as they should be and gaps line up as they should. Passenger door lower hinge could be replaced but is on back order. Door opens and closes fine (not a need to do item) but there is a hairline crack in the hinge I noticed the other day. See pics in link. (can get any other door hinge but this one right now is sold out go figure! $50 and totally DIY) Of course drive train is all VW, rear engine, air-cooled, and drives like a champ with its period correct, recently rebuilt and balanced 1500 under the deck lid. Nothing but an air-cooled VW sounds like an aircooled VW.That said, radio was removed and block off was added. Dash is not hacked and a radio can be replaced with ease.I prefer the purr of the upright myself ;)Upgraded to alternator system (12 volt) and newer battery installed recently. Skat shifter and short throw kit installed. Shifts mint.Car is running on brand new tires and recently redone disc brakes up front, new shoes and cylinders in the drums in back. Rims are like new Speedwell BRM 4 lugs in polished aluminum and they look stellar on this car. The car starts right up warm or cold, idles like it should, pulls great down the road, tracks exactly as it should, and stops nice and straight with its upgraded disc brakes. This car literally doesn't need hardly anything but a driver and a nice road to run her on. Needs wipers, and horn seems to be intermittent. I'll include a new one and possibly get it in prior to shipping. Easy job otherwise. Lights and blinkers and all that work as they should. Floor pans and heater channels and areas prone to rust are in great shape. The car lives in a garage and has always been a sunny day driver.Interior panels are brand new black tweed with door pockets, and the carpet was newly installed after paint was done. Rag top works effortlessly and really makes this car stand out, as if it didn't already. Sunshine days are among us and a rag is the best way to go :) Seat covers are all in good shape and original. Black tweed to match would really set this thing off though ;) The car has gotten compliments galore by people in the ACVW world and those that just want to know what it is. Its a great classic that has proven to increase in value in recent years and will continue to do so. It's a small investment car that you can enjoy as long as you own it. As VW said in an ad way back in the 70's "Invest in precious metal".

As these things go, some key points to make and understand before bidding. Given the age of the ghia and the venue in which it’s being listed, I am offering this sale AS-IS, no warranties outside of my word on the items mentioned above, and no refunds of any kind once the deal is done. This said PLEASE ask any and all questions, come and see/inspect/drive the car if you’re able, and get all of your own permissions/financing/space cleared in your garage BEFORE you bid. Keep in mind, this IS a 50 year old car, an will likely have things to fiddle with and imporove. That said, its an excellent example of a classic Ghia and a gorgeous air cooled investment. As mentioned above, I am selling the car to repair my business from the hit its taken due to Covid. The proceeds from this sale are required with urgency so I would like not to list more than once which is reflective in my price. BUY IT NOW can be agreed on at $19,000 or upon discussion, so please reach out if this is of interest. The ghia is also going to be listed elsewhere and for sale locally, first to pay is the new owner. Otherwise, bid what you can afford to and are committed to pay, and we’ll see from there! PayPal for deposit is OK, the rest will have to be wire, cash, or certified bank check (PP Fees too high for full payment). Nothing gets handed over till funds clear. Pick up here at my house in Barre MA is expected within 5 business days of end of auction. Shipping is responsibility of the buyer, but I will of course do anything I can on my end to help get that sorted. I’ve both shipped a car home and away so I’m happy to lend my experience onto whomever might not have before to make it go smoothly. I have all the paperwork, clear/clean title, ready for new owner to register in their name etc, all will be sent certified mail once funds are cleared.

In closing, my reputation on here means a lot to me, and my enthusiasm for these cars and the people that enjoy them is my favorite part of the hobby. If there is anything you’d like to know or share in regard to this awesome little Karmann Ghia, I’d love to chat. Please feel free to consider my feedback, and or speak with anyone that has purchased a car from me in the past if you have any concerns. Thanks again for the interest in this awesome little VW, and good luck with the bidding :) Cheers, Brando
