Description of 1992 Volvo 940

This is a great car for pulling a trailer, unlike most other cars Volvos are built to pull trailers and it is better even than many small pickups and SUVs for that purpose. A good tow hook is mounted and it has 2 different electrical connections, both the simple 4-connector one, and one for trailers with brakes (a wire for disconnecting the brakes when backing up). The front shock absorbers have been replaced with adjustable heavy duty ones for better control when pulling a trailer on the upper weight limit. The red-block cast iron engine in these Volvos varied a bit over the years as to number and position of the main shaft bearings, but this one has the engine that has turned out to be most reliable, and it should work for hundreds of thousands of miles. The compression is good on all 4 cylinders. The car has been kept as a second car the last 6 years, and not received much use. The tires have less than 1000 miles on them, the alternator, A/C compressor, battery were also recently replaced. It was repainted about 10 years ago but the top coat is now fading (I have the paint, just haven't got around to do the job). The front leather seats are dried by the sun. The A/C is leaking, but otherwise working. The instrument panel has been improved (these cars suffer from leaking capacitors in the speedometer, but they have all been replaced to non-leaking capacitors on this car). As with all cars that are not much used there may be some electrical problems initially when starting to use it again. In summary, this car was fixed and maintained for the purpose of keeping it for many years, to pull a boat trailer (who wants to risk having a $40,000 pickup end up in the water; better to use an old Volvo!), but unfortunately I no longer have the space for it so I regrettably must sell it.If you want to hear the engine running I can send you a short video of it.
