Description of 1948 Willys Custom

Offered here for sale is a one-of-a-kind dream opportunity. This is a 1948 Willys StorDor step van, upgraded with a GM (Chevrolet, I believe) straight six (rebuilt at some point, so still very strong...former owner says it was bored out and is now a 285), 4 speed manual, with custom heavy duty suspension in rear, and aircraft quality riveted steel high roof extension. All of the metal work and framing (roof extension and loft) is extremely well done, extremely solid, and I have technical drawings with measurements so you can work around the frame for any modifications or adding windows, for example. Also had custom machined heavy duty brake system installed prior to being parked long term years ago. Former owner says brake system is new. I bought this vehicle to turn into a tiny home or food truck, but my mechanic unexpectedly left the area, so I'm out of my league and letting her go. I am 6'7" and I have plenty of room to stand up inside. Interior dimensions are approximately 18' from front to rear, 6' wide, and 7'2" standing room! There is also a metal frame cab-over sleeping loft which could also be used for storage and it is 7'9" long, with modular panels that can be removed to change it's design. This fine machine is also begging for a rear canopy and back porch extension. Former owner says engine good, transmission good, brakes good, but has been sitting for a very long time. Engine turns over, but does not start yet. Needs to be properly resurrected (needs brake system bled, engine gingerly turned over, fuel system cleaned, fluids changed, tires, and former owner says it needs the rear(main?) engine seal). Some light, but insignificant exterior rust and a little bit of corrosion at the bottom edge of the sheet metal on one side, also the beginnings of corrosion in a small area around the passenger side of the front windshield. There is nothing behind the corroded portion on the side panel, so it could easily be cut out and repaired. Chassis is solid. Interior is bone dry, insulated, wired for 110v with an external plug, no rodents, and no mold or mildew...no leaks. Two sunroofs need replacing and have plastic covering to seal them. One brand new replacement sunroof included. Title is clean and tags are current...can be parked on the street. This is a project, but a worthy one! This would make an amazing tiny home or camper/RV. It is registered as Type 12J, which I believe is a non-commercial bus or recreational vehicle. Registration in California is cheap..around 100 bucks per year. I was planning to explore registering as an antique vehicle, which would be even less expensive. I was also considering making into an olde-world, European-style food truck, pizza shack, or coffee house...amazing! This is an investment that will potentially save or make you thousands of dollars. Bring your imagination and a trailer to haul it away. I can also potentially have it delivered to you for a fee, but you will have to inquire and make arrangements prior to auction end. If you have a piece of property with no structure, grab this, put it up on blocks, and plug it in and you have a fully insulated, powered, dry and roomy cabin that is ready to go! Or restore it and live the dream...The fine print: This is an old, extremely well-used vehicle that has been sitting without running for many years. It probably needs a lot of work. I do not know what it needs. I cannot verify what the former owner told me, but I do trust him myself...for what that's worth, otherwise I wouldn't have purchased. He seems to believe this is a solid vehicle that could be pretty easily brought back to being roadworthy again. I bought it as an investment, towed it to my place on a flat bed trailer, and that's as far as I've gotten. Please do not assume anything about this vehicle. Ask me questions, come and visit it, see it, inspect it, etc...whatever you want...prior to bidding. I will not entertain any condition disputes after the auction has ended. It is broken, not running, not working, for parts or repair as a project vehicle, sold completely and entirely AS-IS with no warranty expressed or implied. Thus said, thanks for bidding and good luck! Cash upon pickup only, or if you are purchasing and having it shipped to you, I will accept a cashier's check after it clears. If you are purchasing from out of the country, you are responsible for all matters concerning transport, pickup, and delivery. I am available to assist, but for a fee to cover my time and expenses (please inquire prior to bidding). Make sure you can successfully complete the sale before you agree to purchase, please. <p> Note: the California title lists this vehicle as a 1951 Chevrolet. It has a Chevrolet steering wheel and a Chevrolet motor. However, it is not a Chevrolet. It is a 1948 Willys StorDor. Obviously at some point someone was confused. For all relevant purposes, this doesn't matter and makes no difference. Just mentioning it for the sake of full disclosure.
