Description of 1965 Alfa Romeo GTV GT Race Car

General

Offered for sale is a 1965 Alfa Romeo Sprint GT that has long since been converted to a full race car. I am selling as is. The body work is not perfect but OK for a race car. Mechanically it is on the button and ready to go. It is fully eligible for vintage racing (VARA, HMSA, etc). I’ve used this car very little in the last few years after going through it numerous times. 2-liter engine was rebuilt in 2014, has only two track events (time trials) on it since. Transmission, brakes, differential, suspension are all either new or in top condition. I’ve been running this car and one before it in Alfa Club events for 20+ years, learned a lot as I went along, and this car reflects all I’ve learned. I was Competition Director of AROSC (Alfa Romeo Owners of Southern California) from 2000 to 2005.

The car is at Omega Motorsports in Culver City, CA. If you want to take a look call Uwe Backer at 310-836-3160 for an appointment.

History

Built as race car at Omega Motorsports in the 1980s.

Was a rent a racer for a time before my ownership. The very last picture shows Nigel Olsen, drummer for Pink Floyd, driving it, sometime around 1995.

I bought it from well-known Alfa collector Dirk Stoehr in 2000.

Raced in VARA, Alfa Club and others. I raced it in the Alfa Club (AROSC) regularly 2000-2015.

My best time at Willow Springs was 1:40.9 with the previous engine, now with 20 more horsepower and a better driver I am confident it could do mid to high 1:30s.
