Description of 1970 Alfa Romeo Junior Zagato |
This is a very rare early 1970 1.3 liter Junior Z that was believed to be imported into California along with five or six others by individual enthusiasts in the early seventies. None of the 1117 examples produced by Alfa were made for the US market but a small number of them have made their way to this country (around 30 at last count). The body is steel with aluminum doors and hood with disc brakes on all four wheels. This car has no rust or rust repair and no evidence of body damage and is on a clear CA title. It was converted to a 2.0 liter engine with dual Weber carburetors, a rebuilt 5-speed transmission, all suspension bushings replaced, and new motor mounts installed. The car has had a recent complete service including a wheel alignment. Weighing just 2000 pounds and with close to 150 hp it runs very strong with cams designed to provide a lot of mid-range power for today's driving conditions. The cornering capabilities are astounding; equipped with Michelin P185/70 R14 tires on Cromodora 6 x14 five-star mag wheels. The interior is in very good condition with correct Zagato seats featuring movable integrated headrests and a vintage MOMO racing steering wheel. The gauges have been restored to US specs and all electrical components work properly. The rear hatch is controlled by a switch on the dash that activates an electric motor to raise the hatch for better ventilation while driving. All the rubber and glass are in very good condition as is the chrome. The stainless steel top trim piece on the right rear bumper has some minor dents. The 25 year old Imron paint is finally showing it's age with small cracks on some of the edges but no dents or damage. The grill is covered in plexiglas for aerodynamic efficiency with the center left open to allow air to the radiator and the vertical line of oval openings providing air to the carbs. As with all Zagato designs, the body shape is dictated by increasing air flow around the car. There is even a cover over the windshield wipers to reduce drag. With most vintage Zagato bodied Alfas selling for excess of $400,000 up to over $1,000,000, here is a chance to purchase a high performance Zagato bodied Alfa for less than $100,000. With the 2.0 liter engine the Z cruises effortlessly at modern highway speeds but really comes to life on the two lane back roads! Will assist with buyer's transport company or help with overseas shipment. |
